Elon Musk acquires Twitter

Post by Frustration »

There are a number of news stories on the subject, but Wikipedia summarizes the situation pretty thoroughly:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acquisiti ... _Elon_Musk

Any thoughts? I don't use Twitter, and avoid 'social media' generally.

This doesn't look like it will end well, though maybe he's willing to just burn tons of cash.

Either hoping for a long-term investment, or being willing to purchase control to make a point. Neither would be anything new.

I'll be interested to see if he gives former president Trump his account back. Just throw a monkey wrench into both parties' midterm plans right in the middle of the primaries.

I hope so. Doesn't matter if you like him or not, Trump was disproportionately punished.
Twitter is a place full of active profiles made by convicted murderers, pedos, rapists, terrorists, racists and bigots. But Trump, oh, he "incited violence" therefore he deserves to be banned forever. What? And these terrorists who are using the site to radicalise kids aren't? What a load of crap.
Just be consistant in your bullshit is all I'm asking Twitter.

This just killed the worth of Tesla-stocks. GG. When I checked them this morning, before going to work, they were already beginning to fall. They were at roughly 960€ per stock, they're now at 835. How Elon and his creditors expect to get the debt he jumped into back, is beyond me. Twitter generates no sizeable profit that comes anywhere close to the purchase cost, usually actually loosing money.

Some people are really going all "mask off" ever since this happened posting some really weird stuff (like saying they will intentionally misgender people) as if they're daring the mods to retaliate.

Basically treating Elon Musk as a champion of free speech almost to a cultish level even though the man himself hasn't been good with free speech against his own interest.

Elon Musk is just as corrupt as any major figure whether it's a politician, businessman or celebrity. So this hero worship (unless it's a fictional heroic character) is a waste of time.

To be fair Trump being a pedo, rapist, terrorist, racist, and bigot they were fine with. Blatantly disregarding the terms of service not so much.

Put another way, if I were to propose “second amendment solutions” to a member of the government, and anyone reported it to Twitter, I would absolutely be permanently suspended and also probably get a visit from the FBI.

Trump being banned for his conduct was earned long before it happened, Twitter just started to feel confident they would no longer face political backlash for it after the 2020 election.
