SGA: Spoils of War

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

SGA: Spoils of War

Post by clearspira »

Sorry, but I will never agree that putting a pregnant woman on the front lines is something that should be allowed. We are not talking about a shelf stacking job at Walmart here; we are talking close-quarters combat against immortal aliens with super strength who take prisoners only to eat you later. And given how Teyla later agrees with this, it proves Shepherd's concerns right.

It'll only take one punch to the gut, one heavy fall, one Wraith stunner. That's it. That's all it will take. And that baby is dead.
Men and women are not built equally no matter how much that fact may hurt some feminists. Look at Ukraine. What happened when the Russians invaded? The men stayed and the women and children left. Why? Is it because the Ukrainians hate women? No. Its because men are ultimately expendable. You cannot rebuild a country without your women but you can rebuild it even if you lose 90% of your men. And again, in-universe, the Athosians are a very small people who get even smaller later on when Micheal nearly wipes them out. Her baby will have more lasting value to her people than going off to war given how her team role (except when a Wraith ship needs piloting) can be easily taken up by any other soldier.

Your not wrong, personal I think that maybe she could take some time off or find a important task that doesn't require combat.

I don't really think the point was that she's not on the front-line. The point rather is, that Shepard reacts incredibly indignant and abrasive to her, as if he took her decissions and her pregnancy as a personal attack.

I don't see a problem with Sheppard's reaction though. She's been pregnant for 3 months and sheknew about it for two months. So she kept that a secret from her commanding officer for almost two months. Dunno much about military, but I imagine this could be a problem for anyone under command. So while maybe Sheppard was a bit abrasive, he was justified in doing what he did.

As for the Wraith cloning facility, I did find it odd how the only thing that place was making was Wraith soldiers, like, the Wraith had and still have A LOT of ships, they didn't win the war by literally throwing Wraith soldiers with catapults at Ancient ships, they used a massive amount of hive-ships and cruisers. They still had to make ships somewhere. Wraith ships are grown using that weird pathogen, but they still have to consume something to grow the ship. Maybe there was a "shipyard" of sorts on the other side of the mountain?

Also fun fact, the original size for the hive-ships was supposed to be 11 km in length, which is almost the same diameter estimated for the asteroid that wiped the dinosaurs. While I'm not sure if the VFX team kept the right size throughout the series, if that size holds in this episode, then Sheppard pretty much just made a second Chicxulub crater on that planet when he crashed the hive-ship into the cloning facility.

A lot depends on how invested Teyla is in carrying this kid to term. Like, she's not getting an abortion, so clearly she's not opposed to the idea, but she might also feel it's not worth changing her lifestyle over. If the kid survives, great; if not, well, them's the breaks.
