She thinks that their force bond is telling her that she can reach him and save the day.

Prove the Jedi right and Luke wrong.
That's not a bad reason but the main issue I have here is that Rey has no reason to want to reach out to Kylo. Again, in one scene "I have you, you're a monster" Next Scene "I can redeem him". All redemption arcs and a persons desire to want to save someone HAS to be based on something more personal or it's just something on a check list.

What is Rey's connection to Kylo that makes her want to redeem him, that made her attack Luke because she blames him for how Kylo turned out and make her look past him killing his father and putting her best friend in a coma? Her Force bond just allows her to communicate with Kylo, NOTHING in the film suggests that it is influencing her feelings towards him.

The only thing she has to suggest that he is something worth saving is because he claims his the victim in all this and the only thing backing up his side is his word. The word of a school shooter who's first action upon meeting her was to insult her friends, her and then attempted to torture her.

To put it another way why did Luke want to redeem Vader? Why did Adora want to redeem Catra and why did Luz want to befriend Amity? All these were a result of reasons that made it personal for each character because they got to see that there was a good person in there and that they could be saved. Rey sees no good in Kylo in all the time they interact and then goes to him, fights for him and goes to save him because why?

Rey knows what, ten people total in the first and second movies? There's going to be some connection just by default.

This is stupid, but I'm wondering if the idea is supposed to be that she's in-universe trying to live up to legend of Luke the same way Kylo is in-universe trying to live up to the legend of Vader? No real reason, just playing the role. Luke redeemed Vader, therefore she must redeem Kylo. Especially since Luke wrote him off and she's resolved to be better than Luke now that she actually met him.

Well she is basically a female version of Luke. At least at first.

I haven't watched the Last Jedi in awhile, did Rey hint or even mention that Kylo could be redeemed and Luke saying he can't (as in wrote off by Luke)?
I got nothing to say here.

Yes, in her last scene on the Island Planet with Luke she says that Kylo can be saved and Luke says his "This is not going to go the way you think" which is him telling her that Kylo can't be saved but really it's there more for Trailer Dialogue then anything else.

There is only one man that Rey has any sexual chemistry with at all and that is Finn. And I think there is plenty of evidence that it was heading that way in TFA. The problem once again is Rian Johnson. Rey going from watching Kylo kill Han to getting wet over his abs in 24 hrs is bad writing. Nothing more, nothing less.

This really comes from just having no gameplan for three connected movies and making it up as they go. Then letting a unknown director full control to make his own Star Wars movie even if there was developments from the previous movie that should be addressed.

The core issue of the Sequel Trilogy is that. They knew they were making three movies. They knew they were going to be connected. Those two things right there should have dictated the whole trilogy. But it didn't. And that is at the very source of the issue.
I got nothing to say here.

That's not really the problem though, the problem is they rushed it out. The Original Trilogy didn't have a plan but it felt like it because Lucas was given time to come up with ideas and did what he could to build on what came before. Then he handed those ideas over to directors and writers he trusted to make the film. It was always his vision, but in the end what worked about TOT was that the studio let the creators work together to make the best story they could.

By contrast, TDST just up ended the series as a whole in favor of just doing what was already done while also tearing down what came before. The Empire was defeated, the First Order replaces them and is basically the Empire in everything but name. The Rebellion managed to rebuild the Republic, the Republic is Destroyed and the Resistance (WHAT ARE THEY RESISTING) will now try to do defeat the First Order and rebuild the Republic once again. Vader redeemed himself and saved his son and daughter, have Vader's grandson be a Vader fan boy for no explained reason and KILL the Original Trio in the film. Luke planned to rebuild the Jedi, get rid of the Jedi and make Luke a lonely hermit who ran away and now hates the Jedi cause no one is expecting that.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is what TDST SHOULD have been. It has many of the same ideas but executed brilliantly and the difference here is ND Stevenson had time to make the show they wanted with a cast and crew they trusted to help bring the story to life. It may have been 5 seasons released over the course of one year but it was clear that everyone knew where the story was going and as such they were able to make a great show. TDST was something rushed out the door by the studio so there was no time to even come up with ideas, just get things done in 2 years and hope you make enough money to justify the property we've bought.

Honestly I think you're both right. That it was rushed and that there was no plan are both true, and they made each other exponentially worse.

They knew they were making a trilogy. There should have been a game plan from the beginning before Episode 7 even started to film on how it would go. Not complete scripts, but at least what each movie should be. Character arcs, some world building at least too.

Even if they were just going to rip off the original trilogy. Empire and Rebels and all that.

Hell I wouldn't even call it rushed either. Rian Johnson being given full control over his movie was a problem and had nothing to do with being rushed. It had to do with decisions. Then making the decision to make the third movie undo many things that Rian Johnson did. You could say Episode 9 was rushed and should have been given another six months to make a better movie.
I got nothing to say here.
