Everything, Everywhere, All at Once

Post by Frustration »

I saw this more than twenty-four hours ago, and I still haven't completely recovered.

It's as though Douglas Adams and Monty Python converted to Buddhism and decided to collaborate on an Asian martial arts film where Jamie Lee Curtis beats up Jackie Chan, then makes out with Michelle Yeoh for a bit.

...okay, I'm checking it out based on that description alone.

According to people's reports and the subreddit, some people are finding that their friends hate this movie.

But if they hate this movie, are they really your friends?

Some of my friends hate Breaking Bad but they love Better Call Saul. Differences in opinion on media aren't a roadblock in a relationship.

I mean the group I was thinking are mostly Rick and Morty fans with teenagers so it's a pretty safe bet.

Also we've been doing weird/bad movie nights on and off since the Clinton administration.

There's differences in opinions and then there's being just plain wrong or having a bad taste.

The creators had been working on this film for a long time, and they nearly stopped after season two of Rick and Morty came out. Ultimately they decided that while the themes were similar they were also different enough that they needed to keep going.

I've never seen an action film that made so many people cry. I've never seen so many grown men cry at a film, period. This is unprecedented in my experience.

That is kind of surprising. I have seen a theater full of men crying a few times but only at war movies.

I watched it on streaming so there was just one woman crying.
