Not a question. Apparently one of the ideas that is being floated around right now is a Jon Snow centered sequel to the original Game of Thrones series.
Mind you, this is just a rumor and just one of those many proposals that happens that goes nowhere.
Now I could pull a Winter here and write a whole book chapter on why they should or shouldnt, but I won't.
The thing is at least with the new series is it at least based on the worldbuilding that Martin laid out for Dance of the Dragons. A sequel wouldn't have any of that. It would be completely original.
The reason why the prequel coming out soon has a lukewarm response is due to how the original series ended. Or the past few seasons progressed and then ended.
It truly turned off the fans. The actor who played Jon Snow isn't in that caliber that can carry a series like that either.
Game of Thrones sequel?
Game of Thrones sequel?
I got nothing to say here.
Re: Game of Thrones sequel?
Jon's adventures exploring beyond the wall and Aria's exploring what's west of Westoros could make for a good episodic series as they have various misadventures and it would give Martin a chance to use ideas that might not work within the confines of the original series or his mainline books. It would be something completely different from the long-form political drama of the original and could serve as a pallet cleanse.

Re: Game of Thrones sequel?
There is a ton of possibility in an exploration show. Two thirds of the canon map as explained in the setting books are nothing but a name, a few lines of description, and an adventure hook.
I want to see Asshai and the Shadowlands and Stygai the corpse city (I'm actually pretty sure the books will go there if he ever finishes them), battles with the Brindled Men in lost cities in the jungles of Sothos, have them solve the mysteries of the ancient Mazebuilders, armies of demons sieging the titanic Five Forts in the definitely-not-just-a-China-pastiche-honest Yi Ti empire.
Actually typing that out I think I just want an RPG.

I agree. In the books he name drops a bunch of places with a short history and thats it. The TV series itself isn't that deep in the Lore.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 1:22 pm There is a ton of possibility in an exploration show. Would Martin be involved? Most likely, just like he was in the original. But we saw what happens when they go past the written material.
Maybe they could bring in experienced fantasy writers to help since this goes past what Martin has wrote.
Also would help Martin if he can get his ass in his chair and finish the fucking books before he crokes.
I got nothing to say here.

Re: Game of Thrones sequel?
Has there ever been a show that self-destructed so completely as Game of Thrones did? Genuine question. This show was HUGE. MASSIVE. It broke records, it was discussed in newspapers, it made stars of its leads. It should have ended up as a classic of our age.
And yet in the course of two seasons it did everything wrong. I've met fans who defend it, but i've never met one that is happy with it. Mayyybbeeee The Walking Dead could contest GoT for this record, but I do not think that TWD was ever as big as GoT.
Anyway, they have been threatening a spin-off since the show ended and it hasn't happened yet.

Even if he wrote a chapter a year he would have finished that book by now. This creates two, and only two, possibilities: he's a lazy git, he's a hack unable to finish the tangled web that he has weaved and thus refuses to try.McAvoy wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 3:59 amI agree. I dunno, there's like a hundred chapters (73 actually) in A Dance with Dragons. I think you're leaving out the possibility that Martin's a perfectionist and isn't going to release the last two books half baked. I mean, just look at the last two seasons; if that's broadly accurate for the conclusion of the books, surely the possibility of negative fan reaction is making him make sure there's nothing to argue about but the direction.clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 11:08 pm Even if he wrote a chapter a year he would have finished that book by now.

Agreed. Maybe if he did a chapter a month he would have finished the book by now.TGLS wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 3:51 amI dunno, there's like a hundred chapters (73 actually) in A Dance with Dragons. My guess is that he has finished certain characters already. Since he doesn't write his books in chapters but by characters it could be argued that some of the characters have been written and some have not.
You can kinda tell which characters in the last two seasons were done by Martin (as in he knew how they would end or go) versus the ones that he hasn't figured out. It's just those havent been 'filled out' yet.
Hodor's revelation and death is definitely Martin and not the hacks who ran the TV show.
The problem is that he has so many more things end in the books than the show. The show merged many plot points together for the most part for the better.
I got nothing to say here.
Re: Game of Thrones sequel?
The nice thing of doing a more episodic exploration series would be that each episode could essentially be a short story or a couple of short stories. We see what Jon is doing and what Aria is doing, the episode wraps up with them moving on to the next thing. No tangled web of plots and subplots, but something new to see this week.
And I don't think it's in the Throne universe, but Martin did write a short story about an ice dragon. What if Jon discovers some real ice dragon eggs?
