Ukraine is now likely to join the EU. Conspiracy theories abound that one criteria that the EU will impose is for Ukraine to surrender the Donbas so as to give Putin an escape route.

So, we haven't been making fun of the mess Russia got itself into, in a while. Let's get back to this...

Russia introduces new 100 Rubles note, but the note doesn't enter circulation. Why? Their ATMs and cash-systems can't deal with the new note and they can't fix it, because quite a lot of those systems were produced and maintained by western companies. (The Tweet mentions 100%, other sources say more than 60% of these systems being entirely dependant on western techs)

Also, ROSSstat released some numbers in regards to the russian economy. Beaurocrats just can't help themselves and beaurocrat even when they shouldn't. Either way, we now know that russian car production is down by 96% and we know why the russian soldiers are stealing washing machines and dish washers from Ukraine: Their production in Russia is down by 60%. And other such catastrophic numbers.

This reminds me of Hober Mallow's plan to defeat the Korellians in Asimov's "The Merchant Princes." So much of Russia's 'high technology' comes from the outside so its hard for them to function on their own.

Which is why I can't believe Putin actually thought through this war. If he really cared about the welfare of the Russian state, he would never have invaded.

Let me introduce y'all to General Pavel - a 67-year-old retired general whom Putin has drafted back into service. Apparently the last time he saw serious action was the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The obvious insinuation is that Russia is running out of generals. Tbh I kind of feel sorry for the man. Whatever his views on Ukraine he probably knows that he isn't fit to command and would rather go back to enjoying his twilight years. But no one can refuse an order from Putin.
