I agree. You could argue, all of us have more freedom than they do to whatever we want. That's just ignoring their celebrity status. Built in rules, regulations, etc they have to follow. Events they have to attend. Duties they have to do.

You could argue that is part of the job, but their job is 24/7 where as the moment I am off the clock I can do whatever I want. Even not responding to work emails off hours.

And you can quit your job, and be free of its requirements. (Some jobs have long-term commitments, like classified knowledge that you can't share, or NDAs that persist.)

The royals might refuse positions, but they can't stop being royals, or requiring constant security. They'd be kidnapped and held for ransom, at the very least, if they tried living normal lives.

Escaping that isn't, technically, impossible. But it'd be pretty difficult.
