Can you name ANY nation where people wanting to join just do so without limit or restraint by the nation?

You know, if you remove the apostrophe, this thread becomes a too on the nose name for a Federation ship.

That makes sense considering this isn't a precalculus mathematics course.McAvoy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 1:45 amNever said anything about without limit.Frustration wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 6:18 pmWhy in the world would we just open up our borders?

When will Canada open its borders? Accounts from hippies during the Vietnam era indicate the Canadians will let a certain number of people in, if they aren't looking for citizenship and voting rights and so on, as long as they're not estimated to use more of their social health care than they'll pay in taxes. But most people are given a short visa, and when it expires, they'll be visited by polite, friendly, efficient, and ruthless immigration officials who will deport them rapidly.
Why should Canadians deny themselves the benefits of a vast flood of third-world refugees and occasional American liberals who just can't stand to live in the fascist USA any longer?

OK I will bite. Since you want to twist this around for your own liking.Frustration wrote: ↑Wed Jul 20, 2022 7:48 pm When will Canada open its borders? Canada has a huge country between itself and those 'third world' countries. Those 'third world' people would have to cross that country to get to Canada. These people are hardly just buying tickets to fly over the whole country.
Notice in bold what you said. Canada gives those people a chance to either be part of the country in a time frame or they get kicked out. So they had their chance to make it a permanent stay in the country.
And as you said, they do allow people to come in without any expectations.
So what is your point? Red herring much?

Re: US's Immigration Policy
Basically, for a response that doesn't beg the question as to why all states don't open borders, and one that doesn't neglect the distinct nature of US immigration policy itself, open borders would create a monumental influx of migration effort compared to a structured immigration policy. People from all over would make the traveling effort because of the difference.
For a country with a big economy you get bloomed numbers, while a country with a weak economy will be swamped. Note that that second rule probably still applies to the particular US state that an immigrant resides in, though I don't think that that's persuasive on a general argumentative level, just something that kinda rings.

Re: US's Immigration Policy
The only real differences between Canada and America when it comes to immigration are 1) Canada has a land barrier between it and most illegal migrants, and 2) Canada is willing to enforce its immigration laws.

There are far more than those two. Great way to simplify it though.Frustration wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 5:39 pm The only real differences between Canada and America when it comes to immigration are 1) Canada has a land barrier between it and most illegal migrants, and 2) Canada is willing to enforce its immigration laws.
So the barrier for Canada is the US itself. Good to know.
I wonder how does that apply to the US immigration policy?

Re: US's Immigration Policy
People used to get their legal status at Ellis island even if they were stowaways. The whole concept of "illegal immigrants" in the united states is a relatively (in historical terms) recent invention, mostly made to keep out Jews.
