I had never heard of this game before so I thought I would give it a go. I can see how this would be addictive. I got lucky to get the ''first letter'' in the middle of the second word as there really aren't that many five letter words that feature it.

My strategy often involves taking the first clue and guessing a word that starts with it.
Imagine two five-letter words, which contain mutually exclusive letters and which, ideally, cover all vowels (two vowels per word suffice, as you can conclude whether the fifth is used fairly easily). In the first two steps you'll generally get a good idea which letters are in the word and which are not. Wordle is just a variant of a very old code-guessing game I played when I was a whole lot younger, where you had to figure out a five-digit colour-combination in so many steps. The same strategies apply, though having an extensive vocabulary helps, as that may be the biggest obstacle.
