There are three notable rumors going around about the "Big Event" mentioned a few years ago
1: Star Wars Infinities aka Star Wars: A Crisis on Infinite Earths aka Star Wars: No Way Home
An in universe reboot that will reset up to the Disney Era so the Disney Sequel Trilogy never happened BUT still is in canon and in an alternate continuity with stories around that continuing based in part of the Star Wars Infinities comics that were basically the Star Wars version of Marvel's What If...?
As with DC's COIE the MCU's NWH the story will cover all of Star Wars history, canonizing pretty much all previous Star Wars stories prior to the Disney Buyout to set up future stories set in those universes.
It's hard to tell if this will be the direction the big event will go because there's so many ways it could go wrong and is easily the biggest risk as while Time Travel has been used in the shows and one Lego movie it's not been used in the films themselves and could turn off long time fans. On the flip side I think it's a safe bet that fans WOULD be excited for this as rebooting a series that is within canon is the new hot stuff and is something that's led to many great stories.
2.1: A Thrawn Trilogy Adaption
This one is a bit of a two-parter as you'll see but the other rumor is there will be no reboot but just an adaptation of TTT which remains one of the most popular stories in the franchise history. Along with being a love story this would also bring in fan-favorites like Thrawn, Mara Jade and Talon Karrde, canonizing them and likely their roles in the series which is really a win-win as fans of the characters get them back and new fans get characters that are already fleshed out to rival their old favorites.
2.2: TTT is a Sequel to the Reboot
The other half of the rumor is TTT does happen BUT is actually a sequel with the Reboot happening first and TTT fallowing it to show the fallout of this reboot and while there will be other stories fallowing this TTT is the only one to receive a theatrical release. This is would then be a one-two punch with a four part big event. A big reboot fallowed by an adaptation of a beloved story that revitalized Star Wars back in the late 80s.
TTT is the safest bet as Star Wars already has all it needs to make the film come to life and many fans want to know what happened between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
I think from a purely marketing standpoint the second half of the rumor, that there will be a reboot fallowed by a TTT adaptation, is the the most likely as it's almost guarantee to be a hit.
3: A Sequel to the Disney Sequel Trilogy
Of all three this one is the most interesting for me as it's not really something anyone really wants at this point.
Half the fans of the series have been turned off by the series moving forward because of how Rise of Skywalker dropped the ball and the other half were already turned off by The Last Jedi. Now, part of this rumor suggests that the Sequel to TDST isn't the actual event but will lead into the event and THAT will be the reboot which will then lead into TTT.
This one, odd as it may sound, does seem the most plausible.
Hear me out. This sound like something a studio would come up with that sound completely insane but from a business standpoint makes sense. Fans of TDST get a sequel to their series, fans who dislike TDST get a reboot and fans of the Lucas Era get to have one of their all time favorite stories brought to life.
And as strange as this sounds... I think this could actually work.
Hear Me Out!
While this may seem like a recipe for a cinematic disaster keep in mind this sort of idea HAS been done before and was successful. The Wrath of Khan was NOT a personal project, COIE was also a series made by order of the higher-ups to try and streamline the DC comics and both are still considered to be the best of their respective series my most fans.
If this is the plan and If Disney and Lucas Film have given creators a heads up and If there is enough time given to the creative teams to work this out this could be AMAZING!!!
But those are the three big rumors on what this event is and as I've said before, my guess is that this event will take place during the 50th Anniversary of the series in May 2017. Thoughts?

The sequel trilogy is so vague about WTF is actually happening off-screen that other than the main three staying dead anything set after it could functionally ignore it and do whatever they want.
Been wanting a TTT adaptation for twenty+ years and loved Mikkelsen's portrayal in Rebels, so I'm super psyched.

We apparently have a movie called THE ACOLYTE starring a female Sith.

They are not doing one they spend and gain too much money on sequels. 2 might actually happen since they are wokring woth Thrawne.I wouldn't mind a sequel heck I would love to see if they could do something like have different views on the force outside of sith and jedi.

I assume you mean their not going to do a reboot and to that I say, companies have rebooted franchise for less. The Sam Raimi Spider-Man Trilogy was a MASSIVE success and forever changed how Superhero films were made and despite the mixed reception of the third film it was still a huge box office hit and there were talks for a 4th film which never got made and four years after S3 the series was rebooted. The Amazing Spider-Man was next and despite the mixed reception of those films they were also huge hits at the box office but the returns (despite being in the millions) didn't reach the numbers Sony hoped so they made a deal with Marvel Studios and rebooted the series AGAIN after only Three years.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 12:52 am They are not doing one they spend and gain too much money on sequels. 2 might actually happen since they are wokring woth Thrawne.I wouldn't mind a sequel heck I would love to see if they could do something like have different views on the force outside of sith and jedi.
Rise of Skywalker was a huge hit at the box office but it had a notable decrease compared to the other two films in the Trilogy and there has been no word on the sequel with reports saying that it IS getting a sequel and that Disney is avoiding the subject of said sequel like the plague. And keep in mind that time travel and alternate timelines are now a thing in Star Wars thanks to Rebels, Lego Holiday Special and Visions.
The idea of a in canon reboot is not only plausible but actually possible and with the mixed reception of TDST ever growing and even many of the people who worked on it critiquing it's entirely possible the studios know they need to have a film that will not only be a hit but bring fans back in droves with a film that will be loved AND show the new direction the series is going in.

I’m surprised no one is bringing up the fact that they are steering away from trilogies, at least as far as a few months ago. They kind of did a Mia Copa recently, and probably mostly just meant to say that they’re going to move more into a streaming universe.

I realize this is a typo, but Disney randomly declaring "my cup" just has me in stitches.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 12:57 pm I’m surprised no one is bringing up the fact that they are steering away from trilogies, at least as far as a few months ago. The next big thing will be a movie. Whether it's a trilogy or a one off and in 2024 or 2030.
Unless you count the TV shows then it's whatever is coming up next. Mandalorian?

I got nothing to say here.
