Samir Darwish, Egyptian journalist and editor-in-chief and founder of the Merit Cultural Magazine has this to say about the incident:
It is most likely that the person who assaulted Soleiman Roshdi never read his novel "The Satanic Verses", exactly like how Farag Foda's (Egyptian writer and activist) killer never read a letter he wrote, and how the person who stabbed Naguib Mahfouz (Egyptian author and Noble Prize winner in Literture) never read a letter of his controversial novel "Children of the Alley" (Children of Gebelawi), the last one not even knowing how to read and write.

Ah, I was wondering if you were going for a no true ̶s̶̶c̶̶o̶̶t̶̶s̶̶m̶̶a̶̶n̶ muslim arguement. But yeah, extremists are idiots. I mean, we can argue about differences in opinions all day long and still go drink a beer (or whatever your religion allows you or whatever you fancy) at the end of the day. I mean, I'd do that even with people like Fuzzy or DragonBallFan, given I can just walk away when it becomes too much. As long as one's not arguing for the eradication of people who one disagrees with or wants to apply different means of harm to the disagreables, all is golden and everyone who doesn't see it that way, is a murderer or murderous lunatic, plain and simple.

All stereotypes have a basis in fact even if they do not apply to all people because stereotypes only become stereotypes after a certain trait is noticed and then continuously repeated.
No, they don't. Some stereotypes are just entirely fabricated and demonstrably false. As a member of the LGBT community, I deal with stereotypes made out of whole cloth. Lots of Jewish stereotypes are simply false too.
As for the issue of religious terrorism, I don't know about your side of the pond but over here the vast majority of it is christofacist. The Muslim terrorism is just way more popular in the news media.

Stereotypes have a strong tendency to be based in fact, even if they're insultingly interpreted or subsequently twisted by bigotry.
Generally based on some fact, but quite probably twisted, misinterpreted or exaggerated. But to deny any fact base could possibly exist is as blinkered as accepting them at face value.

Says who? Stereotypes are based on what a culture believes about a group, which has everything to do with existing structures of power and nothing to do with reality as it stands.
Most terrorists in the USA are white Christians. Most pedophiles are straight men. So what are the stereotypes your going out on a limb to say are true and backed up by evidence?

Stereotypes are caricatures. Caricatures can be innocent, or twisted by bigotry; in either case, they're usually based on something that is considered to be real.

Sounds like you are backtracking on your comment that stereotypes are strongly based on fact. Caricatures are not strongly based in fact. At best you could describe it as loosely based in fact. Due it to being a grossly exaggeration of the subject.
