That’s why the world doesn’t know the truth. I want to change the perception of this war.”

Seagal, who was granted Russian citizenship in 2016 and is friends with Putin, claims to have “personally examined the evidence, including pieces of American rockets, that prove Kyiv is responsible for the deaths of Ukrainian POWs at Olenivka prison.”

There rumor the man only got work because his original agent was talented and made him a movie star on a bet.

No, he didn't. He's a legitimate 7th Dan Aikido master and that's it. Everything else is hollow bragging and him getting rid of people opposing him via backstage-politics. The guy's a bully, a fraud and a poser. Russia choose the perfect person to represent them.

Oh and as for Aikido, it only works if the opponent is coming straight at you. It works decently enough in a barfight against the drunk loud-mouth with literally zero experience in fighting and that's it. There's reasons for Aikido not being represented in MMA at all. Aikidoists can't fight.

Taken from Wiki: -Quote- It was originally developed by Morihei Ueshiba, as a synthesis of his martial studies, philosophy and religious beliefs. Ueshiba's goal was to create an art that practitioners could use to defend themselves while also protecting their attackers from injury -Unquote-

I think this is a very laudable goal. He was a peaceful man who was trying to harmonise his way of life for himself and others. The original point of Aikido is self-defence not actual combat - the bar fight guy is a good analogy. And this is also the first sign that Seagal's Aikido is a load of bullshit because that is the furthest from what he does in his films.

The guy's notorious for injuring stuntment and famously even broke Sean Connery's wrist, who had a honorary black belt in karate at that point already, when explicitly demonstrating how Aikido works.

Oh and as for Aikido itself, it's very much like Wing Chun: Mostly a scam perpetuated by fraudsters and sectarian behaviour.

I'm kidding with regard to any political connotations, but Segal's movies from what I can tell always involved him as a pacifist fighting on last resort. I mean, he's a cop in the Glimmer Man, but he's as typical under spoken and besting people with self defense.

Aikido and Wing Chun are not scams, even if many supposed masters are not as good as they think they are. Both work best as supplementary arts. There are skilled fighters even at the top level (eg. UFC) who have training in one or both.

Aikido went through various phases and there are numerous styles as a result, with the earlier versions generally more combat focused and the later ones more self-defence and then spiritually focused as Ueshiba went through his pacifist stage (having been more of a Fascist as a young man). It was originally taught mostly to people who were already experienced martial artists to give them a less violent way to resolve fights (keep in mind this was Showa / post-Showa Japan where violence was culturally encouraged and some people were actually walking around with swords- on that note, many Aikido moves work more effectively when used against an opponent wielding a weapon).

Steven Seagal is a jerk who hurt people on purpose and has numerous accusations of sexual assault and mob connections against him. He exaggerated his martial arts credentials which were legitimate, but gained because his first ex-wife was the legitimate Aikido master in the family. His movies are far from the best representation of Aikido since it isn't meant to be about breaking bones but resolving things as non-violently as possible. In plenty of films he very much initiates the violence as well, and he almost always refused to let his character even get hit.

Trivia- Seagal was nominated for a Golden Raspberry for "Worst Couple" in 1998. The other half of the couple was "his guitar".
