Star Trek: Discovery in trouble?

As with always, take with a grain of salt. The gist of it is, that executive meddling is interfering with Discovery's production. Bryan Fuller who was a veteran Trek writer was fired from the position of showrunner after complaining about the CBS CEO Leslie Moonves demanded "sexed up" changes to the series which interfere with canon.

People are unhappy with everything, from the scripts to the designs. The old guard and licencees are stating they think fans will hate the new designs and the built in fanbase would rebel.

Currently it looks like the series is now delayed indefinitely, the visual effects team has been allegedly fired, and Netflix may even be demanding their funding back.

I honestly far prefer the prime universe and exploring the history of the timeline I grew up with.

Those pictures and concept art look like a re-reboot though. The Klingon ship has Warhammer 40k aesthetic.

It sounds plausible. Especially all that junk about licensees being unhappy with the look of things. Everything about Discovery has been a disaster, even what we were told. A prequel? Really? Did anyone want another prequel after Enterprise and the JJ reboots? I'm kinda hoping that Discovery dies a quiet death. If it comes out and fails it'll be that much harder for another series to come out and get things right.

That ship looks straight out of Lexx to me. 40k ships are much more blocky, the usual aesthetic is "flying gothic cathedral". You could say it looks a little like Dark Eldar ships, but it's a stretch.

Of course the ones in Star Trek Into Darkness looked like Kilrathi designs more than anything, so who knows.

I thought it looks somewhat like an Imperial Cathedral ship crossed with an Eldar Battlecruiser.



Either way, the weird biological and overly complicated design is no-where near the blocky Utilitarianism of a Klingon D7 or the simple design of a Bird of Prey.

Speaks less "honor based warrior culture" and more "Religious space crusaders".

i doubt the tv audience sees it the same way and i am sure they could get the hardcore onboard with good stories.

Yes and no. While it's fiction and they can do anything they want, they can't do anything they want without pissing off fans. A prequel means they can't have a borg story. Or a Q story. Or a cardassian story. Etc. While a new show should go in its own direction and bring its own new things to the franchise, there are plenty of post-TOS things people love and miss and want to see again.

Anyone invested in the series being a success for one. Alienating the core fanbase is a good way to nose-dive a franchise into the ground.

Point of interest is that apparently the KT universe toyline has not sold very well, while prime universe merchandise seems to shift units. Combine that with my own anecdotal knowledge and you could see that there's a much more dedicated fanbase for the original works. The new movies, don't have anything of the sort.
