I'm not sure what that has to do with China using tactical nukes on their home soil in the event of an invasion.

It's always going to be easier to get a plane to drop bombs than it is going to be to get a soldier on foot, especially when this is a defensive war we're talking about.

It's either Putin killing the power base of any potential rivals, Putin's rivals killing his power base, or both.

You seem to be confused by the very notion of a tactical nuke whether you realise it or not. That's why you should watch it.

With Russia's current "launch any missile we can still find in storage wether it makes sense or not" policy it's frankly astonishing they haven't used a tactical nuke completely by accident yet.

Whilst they're clearly incompetent murderous scum they're not quite that useless :)

I think it's somewhat telling that there have been lots of curiously unspecific threats. And consider that they keep inventing bullsh!t excuses to not supply gas rather than just saying "we're turning it off." It's not the language of a regime secure in its confidence in itself.

It's a kiloton range nuke intended to be used against enemy formation as opposed to strategic nukes which are primarily meant to destroy infrastructure and population centers.

It only makes sense to use tactical nukes when faced with a force that could not be defeated conventionally as it represents an escalation that could lead to the use of strategic nukes. This is why they were a heavy part of the NATO strategy in the event of a Warsaw pact invasion of Germany.

The reason there is fear that Putin might use them if Ukrainian forces enter Crimea is that the Russian army is basically gone at this point.

What I don't see is how this would apply to China, which has a massive army and would be fighting on thier home turf.

Doesn't matter if it's kiloton or megaton. It will bring all countries into their highest readiness. And could bring the nuclear countries so extremely close to pushing that button to launch their own in response.

And perhaps Putin may want to play that bluff. But at what cost if no one does anything?
I got nothing to say here.

UK media reported that Biden has already told Putin that anything even remotely nuclear will lead to the US sinking the Russian fleet in the Black Sea. Don't know how true that is though.

That’s basically how that works, a perpetual state of not being sure of your enemies *actually* mean the things they say.

Biden is in fact very good at this, because he’s so prone to “accidentally said the truth” gaffs it adds an additional layer of uncertainty.

So are you saying that he's not even allowed to dictate commercial trade of nuclear powered energy -- even if it's done safely -- lest Biden just sends a storm of battalion upon Putin's fleet? Seems kinda aggressive, even by international doctrine.
..What mirror universe?
