Halloween Challenge

I love Christmas, it's easily one of my top 3 favorite Holidays. It's bright, colorful, and I always feel good giving to others... But it's WAAAY over exposed. Like everywhere I go I see Christmas trees, candy canes, Santa, snowmen and reindeer. IT'S OCTOBER!!! This is the month of scares, of cool costumes and pranking family members with things that will keep them up at night and hunt them for years (personal favorite of mine was when I spent an entire year saying "Would You Kindly" to my mom and showing her THAT scene from BioShock). Even Santa Claus is tired of his Holiday pushing in on Jack's Month (no seriously I talked to Santa and he said he's just as annoyed as anyone else about this).

So, let's try to actually celebrate the Holiday that's Actually here instead of pretending it's already December. For the next week let put as many posts here about our favorite Horror movies, Horror Comedies or Halloween Classics or stories we like to watch, read and play this time of the month.

I'll get things started with one my childhood films that I watched every Halloween with my sister, The Worst Witch. This, is a REALLY cheesy film, filled with terrible effects, hokey acting and Tim Curry. But at the same time it's a really charming film because of those terrible effects, hokey acting and Tim Curry. The songs are catchy as hell, the acting is, again, hokey but is still solid and the final speech of the film is one that's stuck with me for all these years. Love it.

The Crow is another film I watch around Halloween whenever I get the chance. It's honestly just an amazing film, with great acting, overall solid effects and GOD the Music is AMAZING. The ending always brings me to tears and the lead character played by the late Brenden Lee (who tragically died during the making of this film) is truly amazing. The atmosphere, the characters, the action and the plot are all great and it still holds up after all these years.

And of course, how can I go through this month without mentioning my all time favorite Halloween film, HIT IT LADIES!!!

While I have mixed feelings on the sequel I honestly still had a lot of fun with it too but honestly the original I'm just glad we have a sequel because it shows just how far this film has come. It's over the top, it's cheesy, it's got a silly plot, it can be scary at times and the Sanderson Sisters are just iconic. Next to The Nightmare Before Christmas, John Carpenter's Halloween and its sequel... um... Halloween... where's the number or subtitle? But year the Sisters are now just as synonymous with Halloween. The film has a sequel novel, a proper sequel film, merchandise sold EVERYWHERE and it's just a lot of fun.

So, those are my person picks along with a few others so here's to the Holiday that SHOULD be the center of attention this month and I hope that you all take me up on this silly challenge and just go all out with your favorite Halloween traditions. Have fun!

The only ''The Worst Witch'' I know of was a book series made before Harry Potter that Harry Potter clearly ''homaged''. Like Chuck says, the difference between a rip off and a homage is what you add to it and Rowling did that. I'm sure your film is good though.

Halloween isn't really a big thing in the UK so I can't really name many scary films that I have a holiday attachment to. For me, ghosts and monsters aren't scary, because those things aren't real. Its thrillers that get me. Things that involve stalkers or murderers or being buried alive. Things that I could envision actually happening to me.

To that end, ''Misery.'' Hand's down the scariest film I've ever watched. People like Annie Wilkes absolutely exist in large numbers and social media has done nothing else but convince me that they have only increased since the book was first written. Also, that scene where she smashes up his feet with a hammer... yeesh...

I've got a whole set I've watched every few years since I was in single digits. Because I can. Which incidentally also started as a thing with my sister.

Worst Witch and Hocus Pocus I have nothing to add to what Winter said. Worst witch is (very rough) adaptation of the books clearspira mentioned btw.

-Halloween is Grinch Night, it does what it says on the tin so no explanation needed.

-Garfield's Halloween Adventure, also self-explanatory.

-The Halloween that Almost Wasn't, AKA The Night Dracula Saved the World. Very silly and campy fun, Dracula vs. the Wicked Witch battling over Halloween merch rights with help from the whole Monster Mash.

- Witch's Night Out: A town decides to throw a Halloween party at an old abandoned mansion, the witch who it turns out still lives there decides to just roll with it and spice things up a bit. Harmless and silly. Also the Witch is a giant Norma Desmond homage, which I absolutely did not get as a child.

-Jack o'Lantern: Rankin Bass animated special about a leprocaun in a scarecrow mech battling a witch and her army of frost ghosts with magic lightning. As one does. I'm making it sound less weird than it is.

Considering that the first film which comes to mind for a Halloween Challenge is John Carpenter's The Thing, followed by In the Mouth of Madness, I have to say that the above selections seem a little... tame.
