Trump wasn't interested. Elon maybe should have asked first.

Even outside that, plenty of websites have had a premium service, and Twitter could potentially make one work. Buying access to, for instance, a few promoted tweets each month, a longer video upload limit, and a short-term edit function is something people might pay a few bucks a month for.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Sun Nov 20, 2022 11:55 am It's social media, all the people putting thousands of hours into it ARE the product. Even when they have ad blockers you get to harvest so much data to sell.
The issue Elon has is he fundamentally misunderstands what he bought and how it functions. So when he sells “those cool blue badges”, he’s actually selling off something that makes the site function: knowing that media brands, journalists, and entertainers *are the real deal* and are giving you accurate updates. So no fucking shit selling verified check marks immediately blew up in his face and got people to refuse to give him money AND drove off his actual customers, advertisers.

Interesting article about what he apparently thought the blue check meant. I'd never heard this particular conspiracy theory before but it definitely sounds like something they'd believe.CmdrKing wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 11:06 amEven outside that, plenty of websites have had a premium service, and Twitter could potentially make one work. I think it was just a bite at the influencers. It's basically the moniker of the loudest vocal contingent against him.

Good judgment isn't the same thing as intelligent... not that those tech titans are especially intelligent. I'm pretty sure their IQ scores are higher than 90% of the population, but that's nothing to brag about.

IQ scores are a poor measure of intelligence

Several prominent antifascist organizers and journalists have had their accounts suspended in the past week, after right-wing operatives appealed directly to Musk to ban them and far-right internet trolls flooded Twitter’s complaints system with false reports about terms of service violations.
