Disney Pixar's Strange Worlds has lost about $120 million making it one of the biggest bombs ever. And this is on the heels of the dismal failure of Lightyear.
Pixar, the company that once churned out hit after hit just isn't the same company any more. The days of Wall-E are LONG gone.
Although on the subject of Strange Worlds, I cannot say I heard a thing about it before its release. That probably didn't help. And Top Gun Maverick proved that Covid is no longer a thing - make good films, people will go see it.

The cars movies are Pixar's biggest commercial success. So much merchandising...

Wasn't that "caveboy and his dinosaur" movie the first big flop for them?
Re: Disney Pixar is losing its magic after Strange Worlds bombs
Haven't heard a single thing about this movie until I heard it bombing in the box office.
I got nothing to say here.

Pixar started losing its charm after Disney acquired it rather than hiring out. With the loss of the people providing a vision, Pixar became just a way to churn out Disney pablum in a digital medium. Standardized, uncontroversial, and 'safe'.
Go rewatch The Incredibles and see just how many ways that movie breaks away from the safe path. (That leads ever downward into stagnation.)

I try to avoid getting involved in chats like these but I just find it so amusing how no one is mentioning how we've had this conversation many MANY times before.
A Bug's Life: Ugh, Pixar isn't going to be the power house we all thought it was, clearly their first real film was a fluke.
Cars: Well, it was nice while it lasted but now Pixar is loosing it's touch and we've seen the best the company has to offer and it's all down hill from here.
Cars 2, Brave and Monsters University: We should have seen the warning signs before and now it's just obvious that the magic is gone and Pixar will NEVER be what it was again.
The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory and Cars 3: We've lost the magic, it's gone. Time to put the company down, Pixar is a shadow of what it once was.
Toy Story 4 and Onward: Pixar has clearly run out of ideas but it's to be expected, no one can keep the magic alive forever.
Lightyear: How shameful that Pixar is trying to keep itself alive instead of just giving up and dying already.
This is honestly comedic. We hit one or two okay films or just one bad film and someone jumps on the "The Good Old Days are Gone, now everything sucks and it will NEVER be good again."
But what's so funny here about this thread that no one is acknowledging a key detail which is that Strange World isn't a Pixar film, it's a Disney Animated film. As far as I know Pixar has nothing to do with this film so this entire thread is based on someone not bothering to check their facts before complaining about a company that isn't even involved in said film.
This is like when Overly Religious Idiots demanded Netflix to cancel Good Omens which was an Amazon show. It's already kinda silly to start with and makes it clear that the ones complaining about the project in question didn't bother to watch or research the project they were complaining about which makes this already silly argument even more hilarious.
"Pixar is losing It's Magic"
Yeah, they lost it so much it's like they didn't even make the film in question.

Frick, you're right. You'd think, after all this time, we wouldn't assume all Disney CGI is Pixar's.

What precisely is the distinction, now that Pixar has been entirely absorbed by Disney?
I acknowledge that you're right that there doesn't seem to be the Pixar name attached. To what degree that does imply things about the scripting and studio?

The point is, dear Frustration, is that this entire argument is based on quality of a certain studio which not involved. Going back to the point I made it's like when several overly religious nuts made a big deal about Good Omens and sent their angry comments towards Netflix, which had nothing to do with the show.Frustration wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 11:19 pm What precisely is the distinction, now that Pixar has been entirely absorbed by Disney?

Everything about this thread is based around the idea that Pixar has lost what made it such a acclaimed studio. Not Disney, Pixar, case in point
clearspira Couldn't even be bothered to see if the studio they were complaining about was even involved. It doesn't help that they, as per-usual, have refused to look at literally ANY OTHER Film the company has made. Inside Out, Coco, Incredibles 2, Soul and Turning Red were all huge hits with critics and 2 of those hits were released only a few years ago. Soul was LOVED by everyone and while TR may not be as loved it was still a hit on streaming last I checked.Disney Pixar's Strange Worlds has lost about $120 million making it one of the biggest bombs ever. And this is on the heels of the dismal failure of Lightyear.
Pixar, the company that once churned out hit after hit just isn't the same company any more. The days of Wall-E are LONG gone.
But even if they weren't it wouldn't matter because Pixar wasn't involved this was a Disney Animated film and while it has bombed that doesn't really have to do with anything going on. This post is based on the idea that Pixar specifically has lost what made it good in a film that it had no involvement in.
If the argument was made that Disney as a whole has lost it's touch that would be one thing but clearspira was directly their issues at a company uninvolved in the failing of a single film which they were not involved in. And in regards to Disney Animated Films Strange World is ONE film and if you take the five seconds to actually look at the other films you'll see that most have been critically and commercially successful.
Encanto & Raya and the Last Dragon was released around the same time as Soul and Turing Red and all were well liked with all 4 being huge hits on streaming and likely would have made a huge profit at the box office if not for the Pandemic.
Again this whole thread is about a studio that didn't involve themselves so posts like this.
Mean nothing because this is, say it with me now, NOT a Pixar film. If you're going to complain about a Pixar film actually complain about a film they made. Or don't, again this is just kinda hilarious.Frustration wrote: ↑Tue Nov 29, 2022 11:34 pm Pixar started losing its charm after Disney acquired it rather than hiring out.
