Name one theme that Man of Steel had, that Reeves' Superman didn't go through. At worst, you could argue that having to kill Zod was the darkest that happened and this mostly happened because Cavillman didn't have the option of phantom-zoning them. Death of Pa Kent? Been there. Widespread destruction and death due to the villain-plot and fighting? Been there. I mean, can you come up with even one thing that is truely dark? Don't make the mistake of confusing grit with darkness. Those are two different beasts.
And yes, Cavillman would've gone to a dark place, but again, not a scenario we didn't have before. In fact, SFDebris just had this very scenario in one of his reviews. I sincerely can't remember Charles mentioning, that this is or was something where you shouldn't go with Superman.
And as for Batfleck, first he comes around eventually and what he is doing is motivated by a sense of responsibility towards the ordinary people. He doesn't do what he does purely for himself and his vengeance-motif (watching recommendation btw: The Batman. Great movie, absolutely unexpected). And then there's the fact, that we're missing an entire Batman-movie during which he was supposed to come to the conclusion that what he does in Dawn of Justice is the right thing to do. Which leads us again to: executive meddling ruining it for everyone.

I am pretty sure there are some version of the punisher that can comfort child as well. Depends on the writer really.clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2022 10:06 am
Man of Steel and Batman V Superman wasn't dark? I know of at least one incredibly popular Youtuber on this forum who would disagree. I would suggest watching his videos.
I got to say, the barrier for dark must be REALLY high nowadays if this version of Batman isn't considered dark. I read a comment once that I think sums up Batman perfectly: ''If you cannot imagine your Batman comforting a crying child, then you don't have Batman. You have the Punisher.'' That is what Affleck Batman is. The Punisher. A crazy man who brands people with an iron, who is absolutely uncompromising, who uses guns despite his backstory.

While executive meddling does get involve, I don't think Snyder is aware enough of these characters to fix his mistake, and would just keep doubling tripling down.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2022 11:47 am Name one theme that Man of Steel had, that Reeves' Superman didn't go through. The world is generally more believable in Snyder's universe. Public indifference to Superman just as an absolute symbol of modernism is pretty expected and rather relevant in this day in age.
And I agree that The Batman added a touch of modernism in an appreciable manner at the end that channels the corny sentimentalism from the kids show that everyone wants to see in the mature films.

One of the problems with Superman is that his superiority manifests entirely in feats of strength and power. It's easy to write and draw superstrength; superior intelligence requires superior intelligence to write.

Yeah, Dawn of Justice is just as much a Saturday morning cartoon as TAS was. Decision made solely to sell toys, cheap plot twist, a weak script, the only different is TAS knew how to keep going for years while the DCEU didn't even bother with it own name.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2022 7:48 pm The world is generally more believable in Snyder's universe. Can you clarify? Saying that it particularly “wasn’t” dark starts to beg the question as to what you mean by dark.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Sun Dec 18, 2022 5:12 am I think anyone who thinks MAN OF STEEL was dark wasn't paying attention.
And DAWN OF JUSTICE wasn't particularly dark either.

At this point, I don't care if it "Dark" or not. Is it good, no? Then we got a problem.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 11:54 pmCan you clarify?
