New Willow spinoff series first season just wrapped up, I had a lot of fun with it. It's very silly indeed but if you were expecting anything else after seeing the movie I don't know why.
Irreverent banter that doesn't get annoying, cool action scenes (although a few I swear they shot for undercranking and then just didn't), a sapphic romance I'm frankly astonished Winter hasn't done a post about, some neat monster designs. Nothing spectacular but I'm sure I'll rewatch it and see any follow-up seasons.

Willow series
When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty.
Re: Willow series
I'll be honest, I just wasn't interested in the show. The way it was marketed... just didn't make it feel like Willow but a show that was made by people who never watched the film. Things like Willow saying "I'm so miffed" the BDSM joke and the effects (which look rather cheap) honestly put me off from watching the show. I felt like something made by a marketing team instead of people with passion.
The film Willow was something made by Lucas as a spiritual successor to Star Wars and a spiritual Adaptation of Lord of the Rings (I think Peter Jackson even said Willow was a huge inspiration for LOTR in terms of looks) and had a timeless feel to it while the show Willow looks and feels like Superhero film.
And on top of that there is a MASSIVE flame war surrounding the show due to the still (annoyingly) on going Woke/Anti-Woke argument. And after Star Wars I'm a bit weary of Lucas Film's handling of their franchises. There have been good ones like The Mandalorian and Andor but most of their projects just feel... Off.
I'll no doubt watch it later but right now everything I've seen hasn't really gotten my interest yet and it just looks like just an okay show and dammit Willow deserves more.

Hadn't seen the flame war, but then I'm not really on social media. Last I checked the anti-woke crowd were distracted simping for a human trafficker and complaining about M&M commercials again, I didn't think they'd even noticed this one.

I could barely go 1 page on any sight that didn't have someone talking about it. Anyways, to go back to what I was talking about in how this doesn't feel like Willow, when I saw the trailers for Wednesday even though that show was changing a LOT from what fans have come to expect from the series (mainly focusing on only one family member, having said family member interact with the supernatural instead of the regular world and indicate that some of Wednesday's behavior is kinda bad) it still FELT like something that fit within the Addams Family World.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 10:56 pm Hadn't seen the flame war, but then I'm not really on social media. I don't get that with Willow, at least as it was advertised and from what little I've seen. Maybe that will change but right now this is very meh for me.

Re: Willow series
If you really want to know what Lucas would have done as a follow-up the answer is "Chronicles of the Shadow War". Not a fan myself but a college roommate back in the day was super into it.

Re: Willow series
Same, COTSW is not Lucas' best work but from what I understand he made that more out of obligation not out of passion so I'm willing to give him a bit more leeway much like how I do with other creators.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 6:47 am If you really want to know what Lucas would have done as a follow-up the answer is "Chronicles of the Shadow War". Re: Willow series
It was made by people who clearly loved the original and that's why it works.
