Catra vs. Kylo Ren: Death Battle

No this isn't real (yet) just some fan art that was in my recommendations on Deviant Art. But it is one I would like to see happen. I've often compared Catra to Kylo and have felt that the former was a more fleshed out and engaging as a character than the later. But do I think she could win in a straight up fight against him if they were actually pitted against each other.

Short Answer... yes.

Long answer, Kylo has had trouble taking on non-Force Users like Finn and the Red Shirt Guards, has never won a fight with Rey throughout the Disney Sequel Trilogy and in fact NEEDED Her help in defeating the aforementioned Red Guards. Is ruled by his emotions and has no head for strategy and just fights in a blind rage which has never worked for him... Ever!

Catra, by contrast, has taken on opponents much more powerful then her (Hordak, Shadow Weaver and the Crystal Defense Monster (which was designed to take out She-Ra)) has managed to fight She-Ra to a few standstills and was able to keep Glimmer on her toes during their fight in Season 4 AND is a gifted strategist and has outsmarted her enemies on several occasions.

Further more, Catra was the main reason for the Horde nearly Conquering Etheria and it was though the Princess Alliance hiring Double Trouble AND having access to the power granted to them by the Heart of Etheria that they were able to turn the tide. Meanwhile after Kylo took control of the First Order he did such a terrible job that the Order was wiped out in about a year.

Yes he has access to the Force and yes he has a lightsaber but he barely uses the former and is kinda shit with the latter. To take a look at most of his fights he almost never uses the Force in a straight up fight and is slow and clumsy with his lightsaber. Add to that the fact that he's rather easy to manipulate and for all her problems Catra has been shown that she can keep it together during a fight AND can get in the head of her opponents rather easily even if she barely knows them.

So my money is on the Lesbian Cat-Girl, how about you?

Kylo wasn't allowed to defeat Rey. He was defeated by the script not by his ability. Realistically he should have chopped her head off during their first fight.

That aside, probably Cat-Girl. I don't think Kylo ever comes across as being on Luke, Young Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon or Anakin's level. TROS Rey might actually be a better match up.

Against a real Sith or Jedi she'd be out of luck (can't do much about the ol' Force lift & stab), but like you pointed out Kylo never uses the Force in combat.

One thing to keep in mind about her going up against She-Ra is that Adora was holding back and the one time she didn't hold back she curb-stomped in one second. However, later in season 4 when Adora has given up on trying to redeem Catra she fights Double Trouble (who's Pretending to be Catra and who's fighting style mirrors Catra's perfectly) and the two are mostly evenly matched.

And that's another advantage with Catra, she improves over the course of the series, learning where she went wrong and improving. And in Season 5 she has access to magic powers via Melog and while being able to turn invisible wouldn't do much good even to someone as inept in the Force as Kylo the two still fight as a single unit and that would be a problem with Kylo.

Comic and it raises a few issues for me.

1: Kylo can take on a Kaiju but has trouble with the non Force Powered Janitor and Red Shirts.

2: This feels like it was done Solely to make Kylo like a badass as if to go "See, Kylo killed Godzilla, he's totally not a loser."

And 3: The method in how he killed it just makes me laugh.

See to kill it Kylo goes INTO the monster to cut it up from the inside, except there's a little problem that was pointed out in the MCU. Drax would you care to reenact that scene?

So, this bit with Kylo that Guardians made fun of is done with complete sincerity in that comic and is done seemingly to just make Kylo look bad. And if we're going by monsters Catra beat the Crystal Guardian and while it technically won it only did so when Catra thought it was dead meaning it was either play dead or was actually knocked out.

And that was in the show itself NOT in supplementary material though I've no doubt Death Battle would include as they do tend to include all situations... Which means they'll be taking the fact that Kylo had trouble with non-Force users and untrained Force Users and that Catra was able to actually match those who had magic powers and even beat them.

So yes, Kylo defeated a Kaiju, he still had trouble with Red shirts and Catra was able to match people with powers despite not having powers himself.

Yeah, Kylo is one of those characters where most of his more awesome moments come from Supplementary Material which is more about people trying to fix him but the fact remains that in the end Kylo, just like the Storm Troopers, is likely ever only be seen as a joke of a villain.
