Well part of it is the era of television we live in. There will be more episodes of Discovery than there are episodes of Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, or Ozark. There's more episodes of TNG than there are episodes of any television show that started in the last ten years. Comparing NuTrek to old Trek in quantity is a fools errand.

Re: Disco Dance Ending
That said I have to admit, I did expect Disco to match TOS in episode count by getting a sixth season at minimum.
But honestly my expectation is this is almost entirely a case of contract negotiations coming up and Paramount deciding that the union standard increases for a sixth year was just too rich for their blood, and they’d rather start over with fresh actors.
One of the rumors of the proposed academy-set series they said was in the works last year is it would be in the 32nd century, and that follows with Tilly being sent on assignment there in Disco season 4. So yeah, dollars to donuts that’s what they do here, means they only have to give raises to a handful of actors.

Wow, how long have they been trying to get that academy-set series going now in one guise or another? I'm sure I remember it being mentioned as an alternative to Enterprise, and I think it's even older than that if I remember right.
Re: Disco Dance Ending
If I remember correctly, one of the earliest pitches for the Animated Series was to have a junior crew that worked alongside the TOS crew, so assuming most of them were cadets that could probably be considered one of the earliest versions.

Correct. A Starfleet Academy-series has been "in the loop" since the Kirk-times and just like Star Trek Phase II, it never amounted to much and the ideas went into the movies. The closest we got was the "Starfleet Academy"-game (which was a bit... beige, but much better than it was recieved) and, lateron, the much, much muchmuchmuch better Klingon Academy.CMWaters wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 3:35 pmIf I remember correctly, one of the earliest pitches for the Animated Series was to have a junior crew that worked alongside the TOS crew, so assuming most of them were cadets that could probably be considered one of the earliest versions.

Really though if they’re making 13 episode movies at the streaming front, then that’s more how I’m going to compare runs.
..What mirror universe?
Re: Disco Dance Ending
Nature of today's TV shows. Hell your run of the mill hour long TV show with ads is now shorter than what they were even 20 years ago. Some shows I have noticed barely break 40 minutes now and that is with a much shorter intro too. TV shows used to be about 26 episodes per season, where now maybe 20. Most likely half that.
Episode count used to be important for syndication. Reruns. Probably not so much now.
I got nothing to say here.
