I feel, that's the exact kind of behaviour you can and, in fact, should expect from anyone with a couple millions under their belt. Trump distinguishes himself less in that he does these crimes and more in the brazenness and volume of his crimes. Most people as rich as he purports to be brag less about their crimes and how easy it is to do the crimes, which is why they do them in the open.
But because Trump is a terrible businessman he has to do way, waaaay more crimes in order to successfully maintain the illusion he’s a billionaire, which has the added consequence that he falls back into bigger crimes that are easier to catch once anyone actually starts doing the math.

Well, when you adjust for inflation it’s probably a lot more now.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 9:35 amI feel, that's the exact kind of behaviour you can and, in fact, should expect from anyone with a couple millions under their belt. Re: Trump Indicted.
Pretty much this. All businesses and rich people will find loopholes and do something that morally wrong to save a buck or keep themselves out of prison. Trump just dialed that up to 11. I think it will be far harder to find something that Trump did that was a legit business deal that didn't screw over people, or legally gray.CmdrKing wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 10:57 am Trump distinguishes himself less in that he does these crimes and more in the brazenness and volume of his crimes. And I knew about this back in the 90's as a kid when it was being reported in newspapers and on TV.
I got nothing to say here.

For those unaware of the context despite the copious reporting on it, the general consensus is that the charges being brought in this indictment aren't about hiring a prostitute/adult film actress. It starts with hiring said person and paying to keep it quiet when the campaign started, but then writing that payment off as a campaign expense and possibly not paying taxes on it, etc. I'm not a lawyer, a campaign finance expert, or a tax accountant, but my broad understanding is that in this chain of events there is at least campaign finance fraud and tax fraud, and therein lay the criminal offenses among many others. Given that this is Trump, there is likely to be charges of obstruction of justice sprinkled in liberally all along the events being examined.clearspira wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 12:29 pm Oh, and didn't Bill Clinton also pay hush money to a woman he banged on the side? What's the difference here then?
Ah, well. Details. They couldn't prove that Trump rigged the election with Putin's help. They couldn't prove that he launched an insurrection. They couldn't make an impeachment stick. But they'll get him for having a bit of sausage on the side, damn it!
The prostitute was simply the venue through which the crime was committed, but of course since it's (A) salacious to focus on it (B) the most trivial part, there's a lot of incentive for those opposed to Justice to focus on precisely that aspect and ignore or downplay the rest. For those on the right, she's the misdirection to keep the conversation away from the crimes and judging the case on its actual merits. Keeping it about her means they can make the DANY prosecution look petty, politically-motivated, and prudish in the minds of their audience.
We won't know for sure the exact details and scope until the charges are made public, of course, but there are numerous expert opinions available with speculation already that builds on the known facts exposed previously.

Are you saying we should let it slide because the people who already love him will still love him? Come on man.clearspira wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 12:29 pm Do you want to martyr Trump? Because this is how you martyr Trump.
Anyway I hope he gets the maximum sentence.

In theory, Trump will be arrested and will have to face the charges In court.
Re: Trump Indicted.
It's the first step in formally charging someone with one or more crimes, as determined by a Grand Jury.
