Between 45 and DeSantis? That is a question I can't even begin to answer. It's existential dread all the way down.

I'd rather go with DeSantis. The only advantage with choosing Trump is the possibility of seeing him have a heart attack on live TV and I could still see that even without him being president.

The main difference is that DeSantis will actually know how to do his job whereas Trump if president will do a revenge tour during his term.
I got nothing to say here.

DeSantis is terrifying because he's a more competent fascist.

Trump proved that American democracy works not that its broken. Because yeah, he TRIED to do all sorts of nasty shit.

TRIED.

And what happened? He was blocked for the most part and then voted out. The checks and balances worked. The system worked exactly as designed.

Trump isn't getting back in. And if he does, its Biden's fault, just as it was Hillary's fault before him. Because if enough Americans can look at a motor-mouthed, pussy-grabbing, orange-skinned, science-denying, ''this election was rigged'' liar and think ''yes. I want four more years of him'' then frankly something somewhere went seriously wrong with 46's premiership.

DeSantis however has a very real chance of winning. Biden's greatest weakness is the fact that he is clearly deteriorating both mentally and physically. Will he even live four more years? Against fresh-faced DeSantis I can see the appeal that may have for some people. Especially those who don't want Harris as their next president - her opinion polls suck worse than Biden's.

Incumbents tend to win. Trump lost because there was a pandemic. Biden won't lose unless there's a disaster of equally grand magnitude.

Trump was the first president not to have a second term since Bush Senior. Clinton, Bush Junior and Obama all served 2 terms as did Reagan before Bush, so it was almost like a trend before 2020.

The fact you're British may have insulated you from the biggest advantage than Trump had and it wasn't Hillary (who beat all the other candidates despite what some people say). It's the fact that Trump has been an American celebrity for most of the lives of American voters. There's no such thing as bad publicity and Trump has been everywhere and in everything from professional wrestling to movies to being parodied in countless shows.

And he won by a handful of votes.

Yes by terms of popularity, Hillary Clinton got more votes than Trump. There's not an easy silver bullet to end her effort, though there's like a handful of things, from Pennsylvania to others that people can reliably point to as influencing the defeat.

I've seen Trumpism compared rather adequately to Brexit, to which point Britain is on their way back from slingshotting around the sun.

What does confuse me being British is the idea that someone can be elected president by getting less votes than their opponent. If the president of some Arab or African nation won with less votes than the other guy America would be calling that country undemocratic and calling for sanctions.

That electoral college system man... its not good.
