Sigh. Say what you like about Boomers but they dressed so smartly compared to people today. Hats, suits, nice dresses, even their uniforms were smarter. If I could bring anything back from the past it would be this.

Now that's a losing argument the way discourse on the internet has been going. Gen X'ers are already often being incorrectly classified and dismissed as Boomers. If some Millenials aren't being called that too I'm sure it's just a matter of time. It appears the line of thought now is 'older than me? If yes=boomer'.

I have to admit this was one of my top five giant monster movies along with Rodan, Godzilla King of the Monsters, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms and Mothra vs Godzilla.

I think one of the things that stood out the most to me was the suspense, they didn't just reveal the monsters but built up to them along with the acting from pretty much everyone.

Agree - I wish I could have seen this film without knowing it was about giant ants in advance.

It helps I was lucky enough didn't know it was about Giant Ants when I first saw it, it just happened to be showing on a classic movie channel and I had caught it from the beginning.

That scene from the beginning when you first heard the notice the things make without knowing what was making it and the girl silently sits up in the ambulance before laying back down when the sound died down was and is creepy as anything.

I despise a lot of modern fashion (pre-destroyed jeans, I'm glaring at you) but I've spend my adult life avoiding wearing suits or uniforms as much as possible.

I used to be like that, but I'm finding things have gone too far in the opposite direction (not that I make any effort to do anything about it, heaven knows when I last took the iron out). The level of casual and informal everywhere has become a bit much, maybe I'm turning in to a grumpy old man but it seems to go hand in hand with an overall lack of respect for everything around us. I find it rather rude, and uncomfortably over-familiar, if a complete stranger tries to call me by my first name in a non-social situation.

I have always found it uncomfortably over-familiar if a waitress calls me sugar, honey, darlin', sweetheart, love, or any similiar pet name. It seems all too common in the South, or with waitresses from there.

Part of the problem is schools. I remember twenty years ago there where teachers who rejected being called ''sir'' or ''ma'am'' and wanted to be called by first names. They were your ''mate''. Same in workplaces. Your boss used to be a ''sir'' too.

I'm not saying we should go back to the ''top hat and tails'' days. But there is a middle ground.
