They'd do the most heinous things that a merely selfish and cruel person would balk at with a song in their heart and the full approval of their own conscience.
I grew up in WV and there, vaccines are mandatory. I'm like, "In bumfuck, nowhere, we know this is not something that should be a choice."

I agree. But I also think however that almost everyone in real life who actually had superpowers would be selfish or self-serving. I think a superhero would be the exception - which is what makes Superman so special.

Just look at billionaires. How many of them use their money to build schools or hospices or free hospitals? Pretty much none of them. Plenty of lovely mansions and trips down to the Titanic though.
I'm sure there's plenty that would be self-serving. But I doubt it's most. It's the same reason most people take the "nice" path in videogames; being able to help everyone is a more compelling power fantasy.

I always found being raised right by good parents in a small farming community all the explanation that was needed, but I'm unavoidably biased on that point.
The other problem of course is that in real life criminals can shoot straight and bullets don't travel at 40 MPH. Say what you like about cops and soldiers, but putting your life on the line when there really is nothing stopping a bullet from entering your heart means a lot.

I bring this up because unless your superpower is of the bullet stopping type, staying indoors and using your telekinesis to fetch a can from the fridge whilst you watch TV is the more likely outcome. Its understandable, but its still also entirely self-serving and selfish because you are putting your life over the lives of others. Most people in real life aren't brave - again, that is theoretically why we have those in uniforms to protect us.

You do realize that you just postulated that everyone who could help another human being with something that makes the person in question advantaged, but doesn't, is self-serving and selfish, right? When was the last time, you took a refugee into your home? Sent money to a charity? Remind me again, what was your stance on the UK sending money to EU-funds which didn't translate into a 1:1 investment in the UK?

If you have the power to help someone else, but don't, then that makes you self-serving and selfish. The more power you have vs the person you could be helping, the greater your sin.

And that does apply to me, yes. Oh so very much.

Ah, the Gospel of Uncle Benjamin.

I mean, you've literally just described why suffering exists in the world despite our present level of technology.

Isn't it also the Gospel of Jesus Christ? I realise that modern Christianity seems to only invoke the Bible when it suits them, but ''helping others, protecting others, giving yourself to others'', seems to be the actual message of Jesus.

It's why I genuinely look sideways at Propserity Gospel evangelicals. I was like, "Did you read the passages?"

Of course they didn't... They're believers, what do you expect?

Same with the Supreme Court quoting the Bible on talking about loan forgiveness.

"You're not supposed to charge interest according to the Bible."
