If I'm following this correctly, Rhodey has been a skrull since Civil War given the lack of leg braces? A FEMALE skrull at that ffs. I'm amazed Don Cheadle read that script and was OK with that. Did he need the money? Was he obligated to return? Does he just not care? I would if I was essentially retconned out of Infinity War and Endgame.

I mean it gives him a massive amount to play with in ARMOR WARS. He now gets to roleplay losing Tony, his life, and the whole SNAP business.

But please explain what would be a good character to replace that would retcon a bunch of what we've seen on camera?

I'll tell you what bothers me about this: it's the little interactions that now mean nothing. Do you remember in Endgame when Rhodey and Nebula went to get the stone from past Star Lord doing his dance and Rhodey makes a snarky comment? It was funny, it was character building. Now it's just an asshole being an asshole. That's just one of many.

I brought up DS9 for a reason and that's because we know that it has to be coloured uniform Bashir who was kidnapped. Do you know what episode came a few before the grey uniforms? Trials and Tribbleations. The fun episode. The one full of character moments. All of it could now be a murderous founder.

That is the bullshit that happens when you retcon in a shapeshifter.

As to which character it should have been? That harks back to one of my first comments. This has been set up so badly, with so few of the heroes we care about remaining, that I'm not sure any if them would work. I think perhaps the Eternals may have been a good choice as it would have given a motivation for their Prime Directive of doing bugger all whilst Thanos was destroying the universe but there you go.

Nothing about this was set up properly after Endgame and certainly not before.

Edit: I've remembered another character moment that is lost forever: Rhodey's heartbreaking goodbye to his best friend Tony Stark after the latter sacrifced himself to save the entire universe. That was a skrull now too. Woo... thanks for that Marvel... I feel so connected to your product now...

I'd say this show is slightly to the right of 24.
