Cosmetic and Continuity Fixes That Could Be Done in a Remaster of Dragon Age: Origins

Post by Winter »

There is a notable difference between several character designs in Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2. Things like how the Elves and Qunari have notable Very Different looks from the first game to the second game while Dragon Age: Inquisition largely sticks with the designs established in DA2 with some minor alterations (most notably the Qunari's eyes going from pure black to more normal colors).

And after DA2 these have been the default look of these races as shown in comics and concept art for Dreadwolf. So, it would be nice if this was fixed in a remaster of DAO with a number of small cosmetic changes which would most likely be excepted by fans as many fans have done exactly that in a number of mods.

Just a few examples, the Qunari that Sten talks to have horns while we speak to him in the Fade, outfits and locations we go to in Ferelden are more in line with how they look in DAI while maintaining the dark atmosphere of the original. Give Zevran and the other elves in the games character models more in line with that of DA2 and DAI.

Also a remaster would be a good place to include some minor Easter Eggs that help bridge the gap between DAO and DA2. Like including members of the Hawke family (minus PC Hawke themselves) like running across the twins as they argue in the Background and seeing the parents at the Hawke's house. Also giving characters like Isabela and Merrill their designs from DA2 to maintain continuity since they look VERY different in the game.

Somethings would have to remain the same like Sten not having Horns since that is established to be part of his characters, Flemeth CANNOT have her DA2 design because the whole point is she looks like a harmless old lady in the first game (though we could see said outfit in the background as a Easter Egg). And most of the characters original designs since they really don't change all that much between games.

But yeah I think this would be a good thing as it's not messing with the story of the original it's just little things to help bring it more in line with other games in the series.

A lot of stuff that was just background lore as a treat for people who dig gets moved to "we assume everyone playing knows this" in later games and should be more prominent to establish them properly. The Elvish pantheon being a big one.

Probably a gimme, but have the people who played Merrill and her clan in DA2 record dialogue for their characters in the Dalish origin. Probably rewrite Merrill to have her DA2 personality as well.

Hm, not so sure about that as while most fans might be fine with seeing the Hawke Twins along with mama and papa Hawke those would be minor background things that don't interfere in the story. But changing a whole cast of actors in favor of new actors and rewriting characters from the original game will likely not go over well.

Just look at the remaster of Crisis Core over on Final Fantasy 7. They kept true to the original with it being almost word for word like the original but with the cast from FF7 Remake. The cast isn't bad but it does feel off to hear these new voices over the characters when it's, again, word for word like the original. Or to use another example, fans reaction to Hayden Christensen replacing Sebastian Shaw in the 2004 Special Edition.

Going back to cameos from DA2 we could see Carver and Aveline before and possibly even during the Battle of Ostagar but these would just be minor cameos. Changing Merrill's and Isabela's designs to match their looks in DA2 would also likely be fine as most fans do prefer those looks.

Now personally I didn't mind and even approve of Christensen being Anakin in Return of the Jedi and don't mind the change in voice cast in CC and as such wouldn't mind your idea but just keep in mind that fans can be... very intense when it comes to a property they're invested in.
