If the sticking point here is ''blood relative'' then couldn't he just midichlorian himself up another Anakin? Why the big fuss about tracking her down?

I'm very confused why he couldn't just pull a stranger from the street.
Eh, the Knights of Ren existed if Palpatine could have just used any body and he's clearly alive anyway even if he's in just a shitty clone body on a harness.

The idea in the last Jedi was that the force tutelage should be accessible to everybody. The force Binds everybody and everything together, and Luke knew that the teachings were only being granted to people that could make full use of the force or whatever. It’s a Buddhist allegory.

I think it was the last one I saw, but I was disappointed when I found out the Film Theory episode about the knights of Ren turned out to be false. It was only based on semblance, but it was too close of a resemblance. That and the fact that we never got any development with the knights of Ren.

I do appreciate that this show and Mandalorian took the two sentence explanation from the Force Awakens art book that the Empire remnants were allowed to rebuild out of sheer New Republic arrogance and just ran with it. Like I fully believe these complacent bozos are incompetent enough to be conquered by a much weaker power because they thought defending themselves was gauche.

Not in a "I think it's high quality" way, I just think it's the funniest way they could have dealt with that.

Basically, Star Wars discourse has been this since the ST.

*Disney releases a new show*

"Hey, you know what I hate? The New Republic being incompetent and unable to defend itself against the First Order."

*Disney shows the New Republic being incompetent to build up the First Order*

"Hate it. Hate it. Hate it. Why can't the New Republic be awesome?"

*Disney ties together the new material with the sequel movies*

"STOP IT!"

The New Republic isn't just incompetent, its bullshit incompetent.

If you've spent thirty years under the heels of a powerful dictator in part due to the fact that he outgunned you at every step, the logical and reactionary step after that would be a democracy that is EVEN MORE POWERFUL to counter any Empire remnant threat. You don't take some pacifistic stance that leaves you hopelessly outgunned and at risk of being conquered by those exact same people.

Its bullshit that they wouldn't know how powerful the First Order was relative to themselves. Its bullshit that the First Order could build Starkiller Base without anyone knowing. Its bullshit that they got close enough to the New Republic to use it without a significant response. Its bullshit that the leadership of the so-called galactic republic should be so centralised that destroying only a few planets beheaded it (the Romulan problem all over again). And its bullshit that the legendary General Leia was apparently not immediately believed when she asked for help.

NO ONE is that incompetent or arrogant. Its bad writing that doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

And remember, all of these were active choices by Abrams, Johnson and Kennedy. It didn't have to be this way. These aren't real events. They sat down, plotted this out, got back up again and slapped themselves on the back for a job well done.

If you're wondering what I would have done instead its actually very simple: move the universe along. No Empire In All But Name, no Sith, no grandson of Vader. Doesn't mean that you cannot have the New Republic collapse, but it has to be through something new and smart and original. Disney just copied what had been before and then wondered why they ran out of stories to tell.

Plus they just skipped any kind of denazification, left Imperial people in charge of major government departments with no oversight, and assumed it would be fine. And even after repeated examples of Empire loyalists in those roles doing their thing pretty much out in the open declaring them a bunch of isolated incidents.

It's really funny with Mon Mothma being in both Andor and Ahsoka and being exactly the same kind of person. You might think she'll grow as a leader and get past her naive bullshit eventually after leading an alliance of rebel factions for years but nope. She's an obstacle the real rebellion heroes have to manage and work around for her entire career.

Oddly enough, that's the one part that is true to life and to be expected.

To be fair, the New Republic was dismantled and dearmed because they wanted to prevent the government from once more turning into a tyranny and there's no need for a massive-massive fleet when there's no rival galactic powers.

It's just that Hydra-Empire rebuilt its fleet in the void of space like Moon Nazis.

Incidentally I'm calling bullshit on Thrawn being in the other galaxy at all. Paleon was on the Chimera with Thrawn when it disappeared (literally the only thing established about him in Rebels) and Mandalorian had him as part of the Remnant leadership claiming he was in contact with Thrawn for years. It's blatant enough I think it might be deliberate foreshadowing.
