By loosing it after causing a crash? I'd rather think it a better idea to cut that thread before it happens, especially when it comes to ruling a country and designing the fate of millions and generations to come. Regular medicinal controls would fit more into the picture.TGLS wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 10:12 pmWell, at different rates for different people. Well I was more thinking how the elderly have to take regular driving tests, but taking it away from people who cause whatever the political equivalent of a crash might be a good idea too.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 11:09 pmBy loosing it after causing a crash? Ageism gets thrown around when more frequent tests are suggested for the more 'senior' drivers. I agree though and good luck to anyone at the DMV who rejects them after failing a test.TGLS wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 12:16 amWell I was more thinking how the elderly have to take regular driving tests, but taking it away from people who cause whatever the political equivalent of a crash might be a good idea too.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 11:09 pmBy loosing it after causing a crash? On a personal note, after watching my parents deal with my super angry Bapist Minister soft spoken Grandpa after his keys was permenantly taken away, I am absolutely looking forward to doing to that to my Dad. Just saying.
I got nothing to say here.

I need to see evidence that's actually how it works, because the evidence that I've seen isn't that people become more ideologically entrenched as they age, but rather people who lean left ideologically are more likely to be poor people with a low life expectancy.clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2023 8:11 pmWe as a society are not ready for this conversation. But its a conversation that is coming and in which we need to have. Because at some point in the near future, 100-120 year life expectancies will be the norm. Do we actually sit here and say that whole generations will not have a chance to reach the big chair because someone is still sitting in it from eighty years ago?BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2023 11:57 am So none of this is actually looking at their records? Society has always progressed one coffin at a time. Old people with their old ideas die off and young people with new ideas come along to replace them.
As for the Pale Mitch himself, I hope for his health problems to catch up with him permanently, or at the very least hope his fellow christo-fascists smell blood in the water and turn on him for the percieved weakness.
As far as age in politics, I prefer term limits to age limits.

This is a lucid observation supporting the synonymity of the two conditions, but it begs the difference I feel as to the remaining distinction between them. There is a clear difference between never having learned something and having begun to unlearn something, which is the initial position of each.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 6:40 pmThat's the thing, isn't it? This is less of a problem in the US, where life expectancy has decreased from 20 years ago. US life expectancy was once the highest in the world, today it's barely in the top 20.clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2023 8:11 pmWe as a society are not ready for this conversation. Well, there's the silver lining, I suppose.

It probably not a coincidence there either.pilight wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 6:25 pmThis is less of a problem in the US, where life expectancy has decreased from 20 years ago. RIP Diane Feinstein. Every death is tragic and I want to be very careful not to sound as if I am ''I told you so'' because that would make me a right old asshole. Still though... it does kind of affirm what I was saying doesn't it? She was basically on the cusp of death and shouldn't have been there.
I like this bit of the article:
''In recent years, worries over her declining health and cognitive abilities led some to call for her retirement and highlighted concerns over America's aging politicians.
In one widely circulated video, people around her could be heard instructing her to "just say aye" during a committee vote.''
