Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft

Not gonna lie, kinda annoyed that one year after I announced my idea for a TR animated series Netflix did the same thing. I've no doubt it was just a coincidence but still, annoyed.
Doesn't look bad though but the trailers for Rise and Shadow of the Tomb Raider looked good and those ended up being just lazy retreads of the first game so I'm not holding my breath. On a side note I always find it funny how people who dislike the first game keep claiming that the sequels had a better when it's just the same story with minor alterations and often bad ones. I don't blamed the writers or anyone else on the development team as there was apparently a LOT of Executive Meddling from Crystal Dynamics for the sequels. I'm hoping with the CD now out of the picture that the show can do more but only time will tell.
However, in regards to this show and mine can we all agree that I have the better Subtitle? Theirs is "The Legend of Lara Croft" mine is "Scars of the Survivors".

I hope they incorporate more characters from the original games.

Well, Zip will be returning but I care more about Sam's possible return more then anything. Poor girl got screwed over by the Studio and while for a while I hesitated to say it was due to homophobia it's pretty clear now that it was purely homophobia. Between every writer on the series who wrote Sam trying to push for a romantic relationship between her and Lara along with vetoing a kiss between the two in the second to last comic of the series (Inferno #3) there's no other explanation other then Crystal Dynamics not wanting Lara to be gay.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 1:16 am I hope they incorporate more characters from the original games.
And even putting that aside there's so much more potential with Sam then any other character in the series besides Lara herself. The writers of the comics (which included the first game's writer Rhianna Pratchett) understood this and gave us a fantastic character arc that ended with Sam defeating a Demigod in a Battle of Wills.
This wasn't helped by Jonah not doing much of anything besides making the situation worse I.E. nearly destroying the world due to sheer stupidity. I honestly don't know why they keep bringing Jonah back. He's not that popular, adds nothing to Lara's character and I get the feeling that the writers of the series feel the same way seeing how he KEEPS DYING! Seriously Jonah has "died" no less then 5 times and the writers seem to be trying to keep him out of the series as much as possible.
The best we've gotten from him was a Filler Arc in the comics which is so irrelevant that the next issue after it was done ignored it completely. In that FA Jonah was competent, badass and didn't nearly get Lara killed. Again, the story that the series has ignored is the only one where he does anything right.
I got into this series because of A Survivor is Born, the first game in this new reboot, and stayed because the comics showed what this series could be. But Rise and Shadow were so disappointing and in the ladders case made Lara outright unlikable that it made replaying the games and rereading the comics a lot less fun.
I'm hoping that the show (I am not calling it an anime) is good and undoes the damage but I've been burned by this series to many times to trust it at this point.

As much as I love Sam and Lara, I point out by every writer, you mean Gail Simone? Gail Simone is awesome and made Red Sonja bisexual among pushing many other great queer characters like Scandal Savage. However, I think it should be noted that this was primarily Gail Simon's initiative and was definitely playing to fandom.Winter wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 2:03 am Well, Zip will be returning but I care more about Sam's possible return more then anything. But yes, the two characters have a lot of chemistry and I was annoyed the ENTIRE cast was thrown away.

I'm more looking forward to the new game Crystal and Amazon (of all companies) are doing. I like the Survivor series, but we're long overdue for another full revamp.
Also, yes, Sam was done VERY dirty. Sam X Lara forever!

I don't think much of the original trilogy remaster they are advertising though. It might be good, but those games have aged real bad so they need more than just a lick of paint and currently that is all it looks like to me. Especially as Anniversary already did such a good job of it.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 8:09 am I'm more looking forward to the new game Crystal and Amazon (of all companies) are doing. No, I mean every writer who has worked on her. A while back, like a year or so ago if not shorter, Pratchett said she was open to the idea of Lara and Sam becoming a couple and was considering it, I can't remember where I read it but Mariko Tamaki also mentioned that she was writing Lara and Sam's relationship on the assumption that the two were in love with each other. And Jackson Lanzing along with artist Philip Sevy both flat out stated that Lara was suppose to realize that her feelings for Sam were romantic and that the final panel between her and Sam where they hug was suppose to be them kissing.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 7:59 amAs much as I love Sam and Lara, I point out by every writer, you mean Gail Simone? So when I say every writer who's written Sam have seen her relationship with Lara as romantic I mean it!
As for the rest of the cast, I've groan annoyed with Jonah and him nearly destroying the world 3 times due to sheer stupidity and him getting captured/needing to be rescued 14 times and his inconstant character design and personality (DO YOU BELIEVE IN MAGIC OR DON'T YOU JONAH?! PICK ONE! YOU CAN ONLY HAVE ONE!!!). As I said the best we've gotten from Jonah was a filler arc where he retained all his likeable traits while also getting a few badass moments. Sure he gets captured yet again but that one isn't he fault. If Jonah is more like this in the upcoming show I will be the first to praise him. But as of right now, the only reason he's not my least favorite character in the series is because Professor Demur exists in this series too (he was also in the Filler Arc).
And Reyes, I like her in the comics but she needs a LOT more work. I would be okay with her returning but she not on my top ten list. What bugs me is she's a fairly one note character in the game. She's tough as nails and loves her daughter, Roth and that's all we get. We don't really know why she's so tough on Lara even before getting stranded, her anger at Lara is understandable but goes to far IMO and she's half the reason Sam gets captured again (the other half is Jonah trusting Whitman who clearly couldn't be trusted in case you thought I was joking about dooming the world due to sheer stupidity). Again, the comics helped but I don't think it's a coincidence that she was dropped by the writers as soon as possible as there's not much to her character and shes basically nothing to Lara's character.

Re: Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft
Fair enough, I stand corrected.
Re: Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft
Eh no problem you're not NEARLY as obsessed with this series. this character and this relationship as I am which I'm pretty sure qualifies as a good thing, for you at least.
