That was one thing I liked about Obi-Wan. Everyone's power level actually went up and down enough to matter depending on their emotional state and how in control of themselves they were.MithrandirOlorin wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 2:39 pmFrankly I hate when Fantasy give too much of a damn about power Scaling. There is something to be said about power scaling in Star Wars and lack of it.

Re: Ahsoka series
I don't mind it when there is a reason behind it. Like Anakin was supposed to be very powerful by Episode 3 and during his fight with Obi Wan there is one point where they are using Force Push against each other and it looks to be even. When that would be a good time to shoe Anakin being above Obi Wan. I get that Obi Wan would be on the back foot and using his experience plus being more level headed to win in the long run. But some parts that is where Anakin should have shined.MithrandirOlorin wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 2:39 pmFrankly I hate when Fantasy give too much of a damn about power Scaling. Or internal story logic like Obi Wan in Keno I TV series should not have been close to being able to match Vader in their second encounter. Force abilities or lightsaber skills.
Then again there is an old fan theory that Obi Wan was actually very powerful and Palpatine was originally paying attention to him before Anakin showed up. I think this theory predates Revenge of the Sith I believe.
Power scaling would explain how easy it was for the Clone Troopers to execute Order 66 even if they had the element of surprise. Most were not as powerful in their connection to the Force as others were and could be killed. Especially in those cases where the element of surprise was gone and the Jedi were actively defending themselves against the troopers. Like the flashbacks we have seen in Ahsoka and Kenobi.
I got nothing to say here.

Re: Ahsoka series
Obi-Wan was a legit Jedi master and apprentice of both Yoda and Qui-Gonn depending on whether you feel like merging comments made in Ep 5 together with what we see in Ep1. Is it really that unlikely that he is in the extreme upper tier of Jedi?McAvoy wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2023 4:59 amThen again there is an old fan theory that Obi Wan was actually very powerful and Palpatine was originally paying attention to him before Anakin showed up. Anyway, Anakin's power being overblown does kind of make sense in the light of the Second Coming of the true Chosen One, Rey. He is the false prophet. Palpatine never needed to piss around with immaculate conceptions to invent himself an apprentice to begin with when good old normal sex produced someone whose achievements dwarf Anakin's. The latter spent half of his life training and still died, whereas she was matching him in power after a week. I'm not being snarky here either, this matches everything we see on screen. Anakin just isn't all that impressive.
I refuse to believe that Palpatine was ever interested in Obi-Wan. He is never shown as being anything other than Light side. Even Luke is less Light side than he is. Whereas Anakin is a whiny, petulant and entitled manchild who had Dark side dripping off him. So much so that if you want to talk about fan theories, one popular one is that he basically used the Force to roofie Amidala because there was no other conceivable way that she could possibly love him. An idea greatly enhanced by the fact that she is JUST SO DAMN SHOCKED that he could murder younglings in Ep 3 even though she was there when Anakin admitted to murdering men, women and children in Ep 2. Almost as if that had been wiped from her mind... herm...

I mean in episode 2 we see Yoda training a bunch of younglings in lightsaber combat, it is possible he did the same thing to Obi Wan when he was that age.

This does not sound like a teacher talking about the kindergartener he taught.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 1:38 pm I mean in episode 2 we see Yoda training a bunch of younglings in lightsaber combat, it is possible he did the same thing to Obi Wan when he was that age.
Yoda: Why wish you become Jedi?
Luke: Well, mostly because of my father, I guess.
Yoda: Ahh... father. Powerful Jedi was he. Powerful Jedi.
Luke: [suspicious] Oh, come on! How can you know my father? You don't even know who I am. Oh, I don't even know what I'm doing here! We're wasting our time!
Yoda: [Looking away from Luke] I cannot teach him. The boy has no patience.
Obi-Wan: [voice-over] He will learn patience.
Yoda: Much anger in him... like his father.
Obi-Wan: [voice] Was I any different when you taught me?
A lot of this doesn't really sound like the Obi-Wan we saw in the Prequels tbh. ''Much anger''? When? He was so mellow that he was cracking jokes. This is about as accurate as what happened as...
Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi: He was the best star pilot in the galaxy, and a cunning warrior. I understand that you've become quite a good pilot yourself.
[sorrowfully]
And he was a good friend.
No he wasn't. He never was. Not in what we saw. Anakin spent two movies constantly bitching about Obi-Wan. That relationship was many things but it wasn't friendship.

Re: Ahsoka series
Anyway, ratings are in ladies and gents. Ahsoka is down 42% on Mandalorian season 3 but up on Andor by 46%. A failure but also an improvement - there is a paradox for you.

The real question of course is how many subscriptions it brought in - and we'll never know. But with a budget estimated to be around $100 million I bet it didn't bring in that.

I mean even if we did know the answer may not be relevant; unless the streaming service is really new or took a serious beating maintaining subscription numbers is probably more important.clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 5:28 pmThe real question of course is how many subscriptions it brought in - and we'll never know.

If you haven't watched the Red Letter Media Plinket reviews tearing down the prequels and sequels I think you'd enjoy them.clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 2:12 pmThis does not sound like a teacher talking about the kindergartener he taught.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 1:38 pm I mean in episode 2 we see Yoda training a bunch of younglings in lightsaber combat, it is possible he did the same thing to Obi Wan when he was that age.

Re: Ahsoka series
I don't think it is even possible to. I mean how many people watch let's say Ahsoka and bought Disney plus for that and how many already have disney plus and only watch Ahsoka because they already have it.TGLS wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 6:05 pmI mean even if we did know the answer may not be relevant; unless the streaming service is really new or took a serious beating maintaining subscription numbers is probably more important.clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 5:28 pmThe real question of course is how many subscriptions it brought in - and we'll never know.
