The words under the Statue of Liberty have been ignored since the end of World Ear Two if not before. I'm very much for an expanded guest labor program, allowing workers to legally enter, pay taxes, have licenses, ECT which would solve a lot of problems that stem from hiring illegals.

Btw, agriculture is falling off because of crackdowns on immigration. The farm employers have a shortage of labor because native-born white people are unwilling to do the work of "Rahim, MIlos and Miguel".
Also, read the words under the chucklefucking Statue of Liberty.
It is very broad term like homophobia and it is used the same way. It is pretty much an atack word that does not mean anything.
Okay, your agrculture example could be legit and xenophobia still be a somewhat useless word in the political context.
Some weird french dudes sent a cool statue. I would not build poilicy around that.

Re: Is it ok to be white?
Having gotten my start in agriculture since I grew up in the middle of no where, I can relate to why people might not want to do that kind of hard work for the pay they would get. Farmers and ranchers can't exactly pay by the hour, you know. Actually, I got paid by the day, and I had to wait until the end of the month for my pay day. Of course, I also only worked during summer, so there's that. Honestly I'm glad I did that as a first job over working fast food or some other service job, though.
One thing I'm struck by, though, as far as people who defend illegal immigration from the standpoint of them taking jobs they think no one else wants to do, is they seem to be overlooking the fact that many of these people are essentially limited into doing these types of jobs because of their status as "undocumented," and that this status often leads to them being exploited as it constantly hangs over their head. Personally, I'd rather crack down on businesses which hire illegal immigrants rather than people who are only seeking better opportunity for themselves. Immigration laws should be enforced, as should our borders, though I think we should make the immigration process easier.

Do you realize undocumented immigrants already pay taxes?Robovski wrote:The words under the Statue of Liberty have been ignored since the end of World Ear Two if not before. Homophobia and xenophobia do mean something. They are real societal forces, and their impacts range from making people's lives unpleasant to ending those lives. How can you even argue that they mean nothing? Xenophobia is hatred/persecution of foreigners! Homophobia is hatred/persecution of queers like me!
They aren't "attack words", they are descriptions of policies and behaviors and ideologies. Why is it that you see calling out homophobia or xenophobia as worse than being homophobic or xenophobic?

Re: Is it ok to be white?
It is disingenuous to say they are:
1. Undocumented - if they were here within the laws of the land they would have documents. Don't act like illegal immigrants aren't a legal term. As someone who went through a documented immigration process and was a legal resident alien for some 13 years it's offensive and just plain wrong.
2. Just because they pay some unavoidable sales taxes does not mean they are paying their income taxes or other taxes/fees. They are often driving without valid licenses or insurance (aka, illegally as just about every state requires a level of cover), can't be paying their salary based contributions as they are employed illegally or self-employed and NOT paying the due taxes (let alone any locally required licensing or certifications), and will not be paying their taxes to an IRS without a social security number that they also don't have.

No it does not. It is rdiculous to claim it. You might as well say the same thing about the biggest hollywood blockbusters. It is castchy but it is meaningless.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote:Do you realize undocumented immigrants already pay taxes?Robovski wrote:The words under the Statue of Liberty have been ignored since the end of World Ear Two if not before. Xenophobia is a specific Form of bigotry:
Citation Mirriam Webster:
: fear and hatred of strangers or foreigners or of anything that is strange or foreign

You read the words, but you don't seem to understand what they mean. Xenophobia is specifically not listed as "Fear of anything". As I said before, you are either trolling or you really are missing the point in a lot of things. Please clarify. Which assertion are you responding to when you say "no it does not"?
As for that labeling, I would say Bigotry is correct but not specific enough. "Xenophobia", "homophobia", etc. are precise, useful terms, like "racism" or "sexism". Or are you going to take issue with them too?
