I might be wrong but I think it sounds like allosexual is the opposite of asexual. So if you are asexual, you are not allosexual.clearspira wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 4:43 pmFair enough. I wasn't arguing this time, I've just never heard that word before. Surely though it is a bit redundant to say that you are both allosexual and heterosexual. How can you be assexual but also experience sexual attraction only to the same sex? That just sounds like someone who is trying to make celibacy complicated to me.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 3:18 pm What does allosexual mean? So asexual is also something they don't like.

For what it's worth I don't think I will ever get used to using the Q word in polite conversation. Growing up in the UK we were taught that it was a slur equal to that of the N word. Then all of the sudden it no longer was? And it seems to be different to a standard homosexual somehow? It has its own letter after all.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 7:07 pmI was trying to swap to "non-cishet" as an alternative to "LGBTQIA+" (often too clunky) or "Qu**r" (I don't believe in "reclaiming slurs). An asexual acquaintance on Twitter explained to me what "allosexual/alloromantic" was (the opposite of asexual/aromantic, yeah. The More You Know), so I started trying to make "non-cisallohet" a thing. It hasn't stuck, yet.clearspira wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 4:43 pmFair enough. I've been including allosexual in my usual "Look, the right-wing in-group is MAYBE fifty people. They will want YOU dead, eventually, too", run on list of qualifiers, for sheer emphasis.
It confuses me and I don't really want to adapt either. Like I say, imagine if tommorow it was suddenly OK to use the N word again. My tongue wouldn't know how to pronounce the word loudly, I think I would genuinely spit and stutter trying to form the word at this point.

Same. It was a slur until I was at least a young adult, and while I've grown accustomed to seeing it, I don't use it.clearspira wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 11:05 pm

To me it's is associated with the slogan "We're here, we're q-, get used to it", q- theory the liberal arts discipline, and not a lot else. Never really heard it used as a slur IRL.
Now when people try to claim the f slur is reclaimed, which actually does have some very unpleasant and violent memories attached to it, that I have an issue with. I assume it's a similar reaction.

That good.

Took me a minute what word you meant when you said the f slur. That won't be reclaimed.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 2:52 am To me it's is associated with the slogan "We're here, we're q-, get used to it", q- theory the liberal arts discipline, and not a lot else. I honestly did not know the q word was a sour considering there is a whole series with the word in it. Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

Re: Tenesse Town bans public homosexuality
I believe that was one of the big mainstream moments of reclamation (which means it had actually been happening for a while).
That's just my impression and recollection from back then, and from the outside, so I could be wrong there.

Every term used to describe us has been used in a derogatory manner at some point. Growing up, I remember "gay" was used as an insult. Now it's an umbrella term for the community, and TERFs aren't happy with that because they hate umbrella terms. For a while we had MOGAI but that withered up and died years ago.

The "Q" in "LGBTQ+" is supposed to stand for "questioning", to cover the folks who haven't figured out what they are beyond "not straight". Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, they're being revisionist.clearspira wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 11:05 pmFor what it's worth I don't think I will ever get used to using the Q word in polite conversation.
