They had a science advisor. He even wrote a few scripts, eventually. I don't know if he'd just given up by the time of Voyager, or if they were ignoring his notes, but it really felt like anything goes most of the time when it came to terminology by this point in the franchise; it had been fairly consistent with stuff before (and most of DS9 too).
Should Star Trek Voyager been a Star Trek: New Federation type show?

They also had a native american advisor. A white guy pretending to be Native American who made up almost everything and those he didn't make up, he butchered. So perhaps the science advisor was confused why they showed planets as round and not flat.Deledrius wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 2:29 amThey had a science advisor. Science Fiction is a genre where anything can happen. Just make sure what happens is enjoyable for yourself and your audience.

AFAIK he hasn't been revealed to be a fraud: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9_Bormanis

Yeah I am not sure exactly how he was used, but I got the feeling they were churning out these scripts and maybe didn't have enough time to go through the process of fact checking, polishing etc. Or they stopped caring. They got a script that goes from A to B and didn't care about the small stuff in between.Deledrius wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 2:29 amThey had a science advisor. He even wrote a few scripts, eventually. I think Voyager as is would have just benefited from a better writers room or at least a better led one.
I got nothing to say here.

I think just losing B and B would work.

Okay I confess I shoulda said I was joking on the science advisor, but come on, given how Voyager is, he musta not been listened too.Deledrius wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 2:38 am AFAIK he hasn't been revealed to be a fraud: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9_Bormanis

I can forgive having a work with science that doesn't hold up, but I feel like they should try to be consistent with it own logic atleast, and the way it was use was just bad writing.
