Dude, come on. This "desperately googling details to pretend I knew what I was talking about in my first comment and did not in fact make a total fool of myself" act is sad enough when college students do it. Take the L and move on.

You implied it, while saying that transgender was a Western thing, which it is not limited to.clearspira wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 9:02 pmWhat I find interesting about this question is that apparently I am not allowed to care. Genuine question: what was the correct response in your opinion? Not say anything at all? If so, might I suggest not starting up threads about controversial issues on a public forum? My opinions are positively milquetoast compared to many that you would attract in a place with a far wider readership.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 3:32 pmWhy do you care?clearspira wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 7:27 amMEN CANNOT GET PREGNANT!!Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 12:17 amYeah well some people want to have kids. That one thing that actual biological men cannot do. That one thing that more than anything else marks you out as a biological woman.
Y'know... if you didn't link the article I would swear that this is a troll. I'm glad that you've found enlightenment here because i'm confused as hell.
Don't try and tell me that you want to be a man, or that you feel like a man, or that you are in the wrong body, or that you actually are a man, and then proceed to willingly do something that only women can do. That is bullshit. Like I said before, if there wasn't an article I would swear that you are trying to troll bait me right now.
I'm about the conversation. The exchange of ideas. To learn, to reach out, to engage, to express, to challenge. Those are my goals. That is why when I post, I write two or three paragraphs that take me twenty minutes instead of one word answers. It is fine to disagree with me. It is fine to hate me. But to tell me not to care? To tell me to shut up? To accept the warm embrace of the echo chamber and clap like a seal to the tune? To quote Tywin Lannister: When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you're only telling the world that you fear what he might say.
And boy oh boy, are we all about metaphorically cutting out tongues nowadays.
Now I'm asking you to recognize that some men are trans, and that means some men can get pregnant. This is a concept you will have to wrap your head around in order to get along with LGBTQ people. If your issue is with the imagery of somebody saying "I'm a man" while they have a big pregnant belly, please remember some of these guys have beards you could lose a chicken in, flat chests, and generally would not otherwise stand out in a lineup of typical blokes. I understand the idea of a pregnant man may make you uncomfortable, but that is your problem.

This is very much a very recent Western concept - you ask this question throughout most of the Middle East or Africa and they will laugh in your face. It wasn't that long ago that the accepted term was ''transsexual'' and there is a reason for that. There is a reason why the TNG episode with the genderless aliens are the exact opposite of how we would use the term ''gender'' today given how they very much absolutely do have gender in the 2024 usage of the word.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 4:35 am... Agree with me or not, the point is, this is a complicated and nuanced subject. Something is not automatically right because we have decided today that it is right and something is not automatically wrong because the past says it, or that another country says something else. Real life does not play by such simplicity. Unfortunately for us all, we live in a world that for the last 15 years has learned to condense complicated subjects into 150 words or less on American-dominated social media sites.
There’s nothing between cultures that compromises the clear distinction of sex and gender. You and me especially don’t have an east/west or colonizer/indigenous breakdown in understanding. And even then, one culture not being developed enough to know the scientific details of sex doesn’t dissolve objective understanding of it opposite social norms.

By the way C why should people getting pregnant be either challenge or controversial.
One people get pregnant everyday.
Two some of them do so willingly.
Three some trans men want to get pregnant.
Where the problem in this progression?

What if it's really a definitional problem? Can we find a new descriptor for "female reproduction enabled phenotypical man"?Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 10:39 pm You implied it, while saying that transgender was a Western thing, which it is not limited to.

He’s challenging their claim that they recognize themselves as a legitimate man when they make an effort to do something only females who are mostly women can do.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2024 3:35 am By the way C why should people getting pregnant be either challenge or controversial.

Yes.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 1:27 am So he wants to gatekeep a group that he not a part of.
Which is a common thing specifically this argument that men cannot get pregnant. Of course these types of people mix gender and sex like they are the same thing.
I got nothing to say here.

I wouldn't say he agrees with that notion. Typically classical liberals are fine with people doing what they want but stop at regulatory or collective frameworks that adhere to organized progressive development.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 1:27 am So he wants to gatekeep a group that he not a part of.
But yes, he does seem to make it strongly about in group socio dynamics.

Everyone else seems to think it's about that but I suspect it's about gatekeeping who is and is not a man.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 1:27 am So he wants to gatekeep a group that he not a part of.
I'm pretty sure clearspira is a man? I don't actually remember them saying that explicitly.
