OK GOP wants a database of women who've had abortions

This is for topical issues effecting our fair world... you can quit snickering anytime. Note: It is the desire of the leadership of SFDebris Conglomerate that all posters maintain a civil and polite bearing in this forum, regardless of how you feel about any particular issue. Violators will be turned over to Captain Janeway for experimentation.

I'm guessing that you meant ''persecution''. And no? Not really? That is pretty much the opposite of what the US was ''formed'' to be regardless of what actually happened.
That gets into a lot of complex discussions on issues like 'intention versus result.' If what the Founding Fathers intended is not what actually happened, then are future generations obligated to correct it?

If we're talking the Plymoth colony then "cause religious persecution" is about right. Puritans being Puritans.

Yes and no. You can argue that the Pilgrims came to the United States to flee religious persecution.

You can also say Britain kicked out a bunch of crazy cultists who wanted to kill Catholics and people who danced on Sundays.

People also forgot that Plymouth is only half the story. Yes, lots of people came to North America to escape religious persecution but a lot of people came seeking their fortune.

I've read enough history at this point that when I see (either in the past or in the present day) someone claiming "ReLiGiOuS pErSeCuTiOn" I get very curious about what kind of awful depravity they're upset about not being allowed to perpetrate on someone else. It's not always the case, but it's often enough that it demands interrogation of the claim. I can never take this at face value.

I think by this point in society, the left has national social issue on watch, though people on the right are probably better at following policy/procedure/customs more often than not.
