It's way better in the 3rd and 4th season, but it does suffer somewhat from not fully realizing the potential of those storylines.

Like, I think the Burn could have just been a background element for two or three seasons with season 3 focusing strictly on establishing this 31st century Federation and Discovery's place in it and been stronger for it, but there's still a lot more just good strong Trek I can point to. Meanwhile in season 1 there's a lot of good SCENES but entire episodes are like... pretty much just Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad is front to back good I'd say.
Season 4 killed my interest in DISCO because they just go, "Oh and the Federation is rebuilt."

Like...what?

The fucking new premise of the show is just over?
I like many people accused STD season 3 of being a rip-off of Andromeda. Ironically however, it takes Dylan 3 seasons to put the Commonwealth back together and it falls again briefly in season 4.

Andromeda has better pacing than STD.
I agree 100%.

I hated that they left the 23rd century to begin with but if you're introducing something like that, you had best make it the focus of your show.

Look guys, we had to revive the Federation off screen, that way we can have season 4's plot... SOMETHING IS GOING TO DESTROY THE FEDERATION

AGAIN

NO, NOT THAT AGAIN, THE OTHER AGAIN

NO, THE OTHER OTHER AGAIN!

I don't know if this was a joke or not, but I really would recommend a rewatch of Andromeda season 1 and 2. "Gary Stu" Dylan didn't appear until season 3. Before that he was basically just Cpt. Kirk. There are a surprising number of moments where he doesn't win, where he isn't right. It was a tighter show than you probably remember.

Either way, I stick by what I said. The New Commonwealth didn't just appear in a couple of episodes.

Andromeda was a great show while Robert Wolfe was running it and not an episode longer. Almost every plot thread from the first two seasons suddenly disappeared and every character was now a shallow parody of themselves.

Andromeda is one of those shows that I barely watched and sometimes think about doing a binge watch on it. Then I hear stuff like this and I change my mind.
I got nothing to say here.

Really was just amused by the comment given the reputation Andromeda had.

I know I did watch some of it, and it was basically okay from what I remember, and that really isn't much. I think I gave up mid season 2?

I think it didn't help that it was out around the same time that Farscape was really hitting their stride... oh dang, I wasn't sure on that at all so double checked and wow my memory is way better than I had thought. Andromeda s1 was indeed out at the same time as Farscape s2.

Andromeda season 1 and 2 is goofy and fun in a way that I think makes it a lot better than people give it credit for while also including some good sci-fi concepts. People say it's Star Trek pastiche and it is but I'd say the tone is actually closer to Farscape.

Which is the best endorsement I can give.

Comparing Andromeda Season 1 and 2 with Farscape isn't that far out. The difference is budget-distribution and writing-quality. Farscape and Andromeda are like comparing your first time DMing (Andromeda) vs your 50th time DMing (Farscape).

Farscape was too weird for my tastes when it originally aired. I was able to watch in it's whole after it was all on DVD after borrowing it. I ran out of things to watch or read and four seasons plus a movie seemed like a good amount of time to burn through.

I haven't watched it since but I did find it enjoyable. I loved the angry Albino Gimp dude the most.
I got nothing to say here.
