So, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has been re-titled to Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
The reason for this change is because, as stated in an interview with IGN is because the original title put to much emphasis on Solas while the game's real focus is on your character and your companions so they felt it made more sense to rename the game to The Veilguard.
Now I will admit that Dreadwolf is the cooler sounding title and I am going to miss it. However, I do for the moment prefer the newer title because it's putting the emphasis on what is the actual focus of the game.
To better explain this let's talk about Harry Potter for a moment. Putting the idiot who created this series aside for a moment one issue I had with most of the books after The Prisoner of Azkaban is that the titles never seemed to focus on what the plot of that book was actually about.
The Goblet of Fire is about the Triwizard Tournament, The Order of the Phoenix is about the Department of Mysteries and The Half-Blood Prince is about Voldemort's Past. The one exception to this is The Deathly Hallows as that is presented as an equally important plot to the hunt for the Horcruxes and in many ways overshadows the main plot of book 7.
For all the problems I have with Rowling right now (who has gotten so bad that even Elan Musk told her to tone it down already which is kinda like a Husky telling someone they're too loud) I still love these books but it's always bugged me how the titles after book 3 focused on things that, in the grand scheme of things isn't all that important.
So, going to a series that ISN'T being headed by transphobic bigots and actually had a really well written trans man in their third game with Krem (should have been played by a trans man but still very well written and well rounded especially for a secondary character) I like that BioWare basically realized that they were giving to title to someone who isn't really the focus of the game and instead gave it to the characters that the game is actually about.
Sure, it doesn't sound as cool as the original title but I'm willing to give it a try and not every story can have a great title just look at Days of Future Past. That title, in my humble opinion, sucks but the comic and film it's attached to are both great. Hell most Superheroes have silly names and or titles and most of them are well-loved and I do like how even the lead developer of DA4 admitted that Dreadwolf was cooler but they wanted to change the name to be more honest about what the game was about which I think is the real reason I like the title change as much as I do.
And hey we're FINALLY going to get a gameplay demo next week and maybe even a trailer today and maybe something on Sunday too.
My dad was really looking forward to this game so I'm hoping it's good just because it meant so much to him and I hope to be able to play it in memory of him. Here's hoping.
So, Dragon Age 4 Got a New Title... I Kinda Like it. :D

Awww. I was hoping the title focusing on Solas meant you could take his side from the beginning. Fen'Harel ma ghilana and all that.
...for space is wide, and good friends are too few.

Glad you're happy about it.
Wish I still cared. Loved Origins so dang much, honnestly was convinced that it was the spiritual continuation to Baldur's Gate we'd never get (yeah my foresight was not 20/20 back then), and the second game basically set that love on fire.

Veilguard seems like someone took Vanguard and misspelled it.

To be honest I think they should have called it Guardians of the Veil. I know Dragon Age has always tried to have a single word title for the base games (hence why Dread Wolf was titled Dreadwolf) but you don't have to do something just because "That's how it's always been done."CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 10:17 am Veilguard seems like someone took Vanguard and misspelled it.
Still, at least Veilguard sounds unique even if a bit silly but a name is ultimately just a name. Think of Yoda, there's a reason Mel Brooks gave the parody version of that character the name Yogurt and my mom and dad joked a few times that he would sometimes be called Yoga. But there's also a reason the name Yoda is associated with wisdom because the character is so well written that no one cares about how silly his name sounds.
But to turn that around Snoke is a silly sounding name and there's a reason no one thinks of Darkness or Power when they think of Snoke, they just think of a poor mans copy of Palpatine who was killed off simply because one of the directors didn't like him.
