Honestly I don't give a crap that Gordon is black in this show cause Gordon's race ISN'T important, it's the character. People who say 'I don't care so why did they change it' baffle me cause... you do care if you're asking why. I only care if it does change things. Like if the Abrams film had Kirk be played by a black actor and Nimoy Spock comes in, I ask... The FUCK happened? Vs, Strange new worlds that had Admiral April be black when he was white in an animated show, a non can series that was so bad at showing April was 'too old' that he was just Kirk with white hair. April being black, don't care. If suddenly out of nowhere they revealed Bones and he was black, I'd care.

Now to the whole 40's thing... YEAH it is a bit odd but hey, if a gay latina woman can be a cop here, I'm guessing this is a VERY different universe from ours. Kinda like how in the animated series, everyone drove 40's cars and computers were late 70's... but also we have a super computer that creates robot duplicates that have their own independent thoughts.

I think I like Harley outfit more here than any of the live action takes on her.

Kirk's skin colour isn't important either. You're drawing a very arbitrary line there and apply labels willy-nilly. True, the Gordon-family's skin colour isn't important, but that is the entire point: An established characteristic was altered for no apparent (narrative) reason. That is exactly what you are criticizing in your rant about black Kirk...

Maybe they just wanted to vary up the character designs. Sometimes diversity is an aesthetic choice.

I'm critiquing Kirk's race change in a fictional version of the Abrhams film cause this is supposed to be the same universe as TOS, which is why I brought up Admiral April. He was white in a non canon animated series, black in strange new worlds. If Pike was black in Abhrams films, I'd care. If he was black in a whole different universe, a TOTAL reboot, I would not care, as I wouldn't care about Spock or Picard being black. I'd care if they were the same person, and their race has NOTHING to do with character.

Small thing, but I do like that Barbara still has red hair, that's all I ask for. I don't care if someone is white or not as 9 times out of 10 it's irrelevant and should be treated as such. But is it to much to ask just to just have characters with Red Hair KEEP their red hair. Jimmy Olsen over on My Adventures With Superman is the best JO we've had outside of the comics but it did bug me that he didn't have red hair. Him being black, didn't even register on my give a crap meter. But him not having red hair I was like "OH COME ON!!!"

I don't get why so many red heads are swapped out with literally anyone else as this has been going on for a with the most notable example being Thor. Yeah, Thor is a red head in the original mythology but when he was introduced in Marvel Comics they made him a blond. In fact I think the first time someone remembered that he was a red head was God of War: Ragnarök.

Again, someone being swapped out for another race, I don't care UNLESS the character's race is actually important to their character and the plot. Like I would be PISSED if Sisko was changed from black to Japanese because him being black is an important part of his character and was brought up a few times in both small ways (Quark's rant on why Ferengis were better then humans when he mentions Slavery) and in big ways (Far Beyond the Stars).

Changing his race misses a crucial part of his character.

Contrast this with Harvey Dent from Tim Burton's Batman from 1989 and Dent from The Dark Knight. Both are great actors and its a shame we never got to see Billy Dee Williams' take on Two-Face but Dent's race is immaterial. Same with Gorden, all I care about is the skills of the actors not their race.

A while back I posted an old Idea my sister and I had about a Snow White movie where the title character was Black BUT had white hair so the name still fit with the character. Instead of "Skin, white as snow" it was "Hair, as white as snow". The only thing that matters about Snow White is that some part of her appearance is white as snow which really only gives us two options, her skin color or her hair color which means it doesn't matter what race she is.

And that's what I'm getting at here, race can matter but it's not the most important thing in the world. If a character's race is a key part of their character then it shouldn't be changed but if it means nothing then changing it doesn't matter.

But still can gingers just me just keep their red hair, that's all I'm asking for.

Heck I think I would be more accepting of the reboot Kirk if he actually act like Kirk and not the meme version that people who haven't watch TOS think he was like.

Funnily enough, I had a very similar moment a few weeks back. Saw a Twitter post made by Musk complaining about non-white castings for traditionally white characters and my reply started with "Is it weird that my first thought was "that's a lot of redheads"?"

One thing I find funny is that Triss, in the books, wasn't a Red Head she was a brunet. The games gave her red hair because the developers thought it looked better. Her design was based on an image of the character but her hair wasn't red.

lol, remember that post I made a while back about changing Terry McGinnis' hair to be red JUST so I could remove any possibility of him being related to Bruce. (sigh) Good times.
