So, my sister and were going over ideas that would make for interesting crossovers, with ones that could theoretically happen and how they would play out.
One such idea was who would be the best detective to take down Kira aka Light Yagami. Who is someone who can figure out that Kira and Light are one and the same, someone who the Death Note would pose no threat to, someone Light would never see coming until it was to late. Enter Columbo, the ultimate threat to Kira.
What made this idea funny was that the whole thing basically boiled down to be just another Columbo episode just with supernatural threats instead of more mundane murder methods and a number of things that made Columbo abnormally dangerous to Light, chief among them being no one knows Colombo's first name. Over the course of the series we learn next to nothing about Columbo, where he comes from, who his wife is or anything of note.
But what would make Columbo so dangerous to Light is the fact that Light wouldn't actually see him as a threat. Keep in mind that people who knew Columbo as soon as they meet him they don't usually think much of him because he's so unassuming which is the point. He's so distracted and absent minded that even someone who knows him is thrown off by the man himself as he doesn't seem like a real threat.
This is made even funnier in this crossover idea as Light believes that he cannot be caught because no one knows of the Death Note, at least at first, and there is no reason for anyone to suspect him. However, we thought that Columbo would figure out that Light was Kira and that he was likely using magic and he would catch him. And like with his other adversaries it would only be a matter of how Columbo would catch him. And again, Light has no way to stop him because he doesn't know Columbo's full name and by the time he tried to use more supernatural elements to find it it would likely be to late.
And that assuming that those methods would at all because of the fan theory that Columbo is, himself, a supernatural being. One with Great Power that would make even a Death God tremble in fear.
But that aside, one joke I made was how to include Columbo's Iconic "Just one more thing" which basically went like this.
Columbo: Oh Mr. Yagami, just one other thing. I notice you buy a lot of Apples, why is that sir?
Light: It's just happens to be my favorite fruit.
Columbo: Right, right. Good day sir.

Reminds me of this that was floating around a while back:

Yeah, the main subreddit I follow (r/TwoBestFriendsPlay, originally dedicated to a now-defunct let's play group that's now a general nerd news/discussion zone) has been debating this one for months. Most folks agree that Columbo has a greater chance than most, especially if he can grok the supernatural elements.
Related: I found this through that sub, as well. The scenario actually feels like something the series would have done if they kept making it past 2003.
