Harry Potter Games Continue to Give the Perverbial Middle Finger to JK Rowling

Post by Winter »

So, I just found out that the new Quidditch includes the option to give your character They/Them Pronouns. Haven't heard that many things about this game but it's honestly kinda hilarious how much so many people working on this series do what they can to show support the trans community. I mean the actors who have been the main protagonists in HP, Fantastical Beasts and Hogwart's Legacy have all stated that they stand against Rowling's views on transgenders and now the player character in the new game can have nonbinary pronouns.

It's honestly like the world this idiot created is going "This moron doesn't speak for us!" Which is made even more hilarious that her most notable defender in her views is the man who played the main villain from her books.

Not going to get the game myself, not my cup of tea, but I do appropriate this feature. It really has put a smile on my face.

I'm genuinely curious how they made an actual sports game out of the concept; Quidditch is a parody sport deliberately written to be nonsense. Even those Quadball folks having a grand old time running around on brooms playing it (who changed the name to distance themselves good on them) had to alter the rules to make it playable as anything other than "everyone but the Seeker is wasting their time in an amusing fashion".

I mean, this actually isn't the first time.

Don't know about this new one, though.

Wait is that true, did Rowling ever state that she intended Quidditch as a parody of sports?

No but she did say she made it to be infuriating to men who like sports because she wrote it while fighting with her boyfriend.

Ok so apparently the videogame makes it work because they massively changed the rules. The snitch is only worth 30 points and the game is first team to 100 points instead of ending when the snitch is caught. So the aesthetic of Quidditch but it's an actual game.

That's actually kinda funny because my sister is a fan of these books like me but HATES how Quidditch works and she said if she was to change the game this is more or less how she would have changed it.

I think that's what Quadball does too.

Pardon my ignorance. But I thought one of the bits in Goblet of Fire was that the Snitch was only worth so many points. The keeper we would see in the tournament later kept the snitch from being taken and did not take it either till his team had earned a certain amount of points. Because just winning the match was not enough to win the championship. They had to best a certain amount of overall points similar to FIFA?

It's worth 150 points, aka 15 goals, and the game ends when it's caught. So you technically can catch it and still lose but only if the rest of the game was a ludicrously one-sided beatdown. It does actually happen in Goblet of Fire, and Harry speculates the Seeker in question did it out of embarrassment of how bad his team was.
