The Mirror Universe

Post by Nobody700 »

Recently watched a vid on the Mirror Universe and something in it somewhat bothered me. The idea that the Mirror Universe Terran empire fell cause of Spock. That is what others say... but I don't think that's how it happened. Lets look at how the Terran empire operated, from Enterprise to TOS to even the TNG comic that says the Terran empire is on its last legs. The Terran Empire... is incompetent. No ifs, ands, or buts. It's a dog eat dog world that can ruin long term plans for short term profit, and no one trusts each other. Mass murder is the solution to all problems, even in labor shortages. Terrans crush every species they meet, and revel in how amazing they are. But when it comes to Spock, he was able to take over and form social changes that altered the Terran empire. Is this why they fell to the Klingon/Cardassian alliance? I... actually think no.

In another universe, The Federation waged war against the Klingons... and were losing. The Cardassians weren't even allied with the Klingons to provide numbers and space and logistics. The Federation of this universe, while not as militaristic as the Terran empire, would still be superior to the main Federation in being more warlike. Hence, it wasn't a defunding in the military that made them weaker. No... if anything, Spock SAVED the Terran empire. The Klingons and Cardassians wanted to shame this 'weaker' Terran Empire and make them slaves, but if the Terran empire was still the one of Discovery time... they would have fought to the death and wiping out planets would have been the way of victory. The Terrans would have been wiped out, but instead, were saved because they weren't as bloodthirsty. The Terrans being more peaceful and not as combative removed the need for genocide in victory. But that's just a little theory I have.

My working theory is the entire Mirror Universe is an experiment concocted by some god-like entity.

I think the Federation in Yesterday's Enterprise was losing because they demilitarized. In Kirk's era it seemed the Federation and Klingon Empire were on an equal footing if not weighed in favor of the Federation. Then came Praxis and the Khitomer Accords. Starfleet was not 'mothballed', her exploration and scientific endeavors continued. But the military readiness fell off. By the time of the Enterprise B they were willing to send a ship out without a crew or many components installed. By the D several ideas were dogmatically opposed. From the Prime Directive being a near holy text to 'combat being a minor province of a captain'.
The Enterprise D in the scenario was not really that different than her more civilian counterpart. They were trying to get their war legs back under them, and failing.

Now the mirror universe. This is what I consider the most inconsistent place. In TOS they were the dark mirror of the Federation and each other. Spock at one point made a chilling threat. "There are those who would avenge my death… and some of them are Vulcans." Implying that Vulcans are by no means pacifists and can be truly frightening. DS9 implied his pleas actually did bring about weakness. Enterprise showed that the early Terran Empire was going to die. They could not get their act together to hold anything. To really take control they needed a massive tech lead. The claiming of the Defiant, or they would have lost. How this ties back to Spock. Kirk gave Spock the Tantalus field device. With that Spock could sabotage and assassinate his opponents to finding a more peaceful outcome. But in so doing made the Empire too weak to stand against their opponents that were not the nice guys a mirror might suggest.

The Terran Empire's power was retconned in as being a result of 23rd century technology entering the 22nd.

This explains a lot believe it or not.

Because as we see in TOS, that 100 year advantage that Empress Hoshi had is GONE. They are now exactly as advanced as the 23rd century Federation was. This implies, at least, stagnation.

Somehow the science and engineering of departments of the Empire pissed away the greatest tech advantage that anyone has ever had. No wonder they could not defend themselves against their enemies.

I mean all they did was look at the back of the book for the answers make sense they didn't learn from it.

Georgiou pouring tons of research and resources into spore drive tech and then all of the elites in the Empire wiping each other out and destroying that tech in the civil war that ended her reign probably set them back a lot.

Actually since those were recent events to Mirror Spock that retcon would explain why he was so certain the Empire would soon fall without reforms.

It's called "Discovery".

I mean actually about it, not just out there because the writers have no idea what they are doing.

Accept that some things in Star Trek are silly.
