There was a message? I felt it was just a setting without a message. The war happened to long ago that annoyed me.

The orcs are actually the Jew analogue. 2000 years ago some orcs did something bad to another orc (who everyone ignores was an orc) and the entire race is crapped on ever since.

The elves are the WASPs.

Though one guy did describe it this way, "Orcs are black with a little black added while elves are whiter than the white people."

But yes, the fact the war was 2000 years ago is important I think because:

1. It's meant to be Middle Earth
2. It highlights the excuses for racism are bullshit that make no sense

Well I think of people who have suffered tremendously and are pretty badass soldiers.

I think the point of the movie is the orc gang bangers aren't particularly bad people either as the leader of the local community flat out points out he and his people live by their own laws (which Jews have been historically accused of doing) because no one else treats them right and that it works pretty well for them.

The people who brought violence and cruelty into the neighborhood were the cops.

It could be but I feel like they are trying to make it out like it was supposed to be the next Loving (which it wasn't). To me it's like watching a movie like Lethal Weapon, Shanghai Noon, Bad Boys, etc... meets Highlander (the first movie), Alien Nation, Men In Black, Tolkien, etc... all set in modern day LA. For me it worked as a buddy cop movie that also happens to be a fantasy movie.
