My opinion of Vala as a character is very similar to my opinion of River Song as a character. Just fine in small doses, as a one off. But the moment that they became a series regular? Absolutely insufferable.

Fargate SG-1 was in general a very mixed bag but it really showed in the characters. In the past it was only O'Neill who was a smart ass. And even though he was flanderized badly (from a guy who had a telescope on his roof to someone who seemed barely capable of cognitive thought), he still was able to pull out depth and intimidation when he needed to. But by season 9, we had a slightly more sane Crichton (but still very much Crichton), Daniel was now clowning about, Teal'c was no longer stoic, and now on top of that, Vala being Vala. It was too much.

Again, very reminiscent of latter stage MCU where everyone suddenly became a cocky-ass Tony Stark expy.

I agree with Chuck. The episode on the whole is so-so but the chemistry between Vala and Daniels is what sets it apart. Their chemistry works 100% throughout the entire series in fact.

I honestly never had an issue with Vala. She really wasn't in that many episodes of Stargate even during the Ori arc. I enjoyed the episode when if involved the bracelets in Season 9, I thiught that was a nice different direction the series could get into.

I could have dealt without her daughter. Despite how drop dead gorgeous Morrena is and the interesting concept that character had.

I admit been so long since I seen the episode, so when the 'mouth to mouth' scene happened, I actually said out loud 'Oh my god you're going to get a general killed cause of gay panic, fuck you bro'. Jesus, that is one thing I am MORE than glad is dead in media.

I admit been so long since I seen the episode, so when the 'mouth to mouth' scene happened, I actually said out loud 'Oh my god you're going to get a general killed cause of gay panic, fuck you bro'. Jesus, that is one thing I am MORE than glad is dead in media.

Keep in mind we also have a character with the hiccups.

But yeah, that mouth to mouth scene aged horribly. I do wonder if when it first aired I guess in 2005 whether that joke was also old by then.

So... I do not disagree with any of this. But I am verging on being slightly more sympathetic as ''Don't Ask, Don't Tell'' was still a thing at this point and machismo bullshit was still a big thing back in 2005. Let's not forget, this guy would have been in service back when there were like five women in Cheyenne Mountain (as we see in ''Hathor'') and there was only a guy's locker room at the SGC (not a joke, that was actually mentioned back in season 1, I think it is the episode with the O'Neill crystal clone). He was very much in a straight man's world in a straight man's job.

Locking lips with another man would have been difficult in that environment. That's all i'm saying.

Its still the military and I was in the military during this time. We were trained on basic first aid which includes CPR. Locking lips with another man during first aid in the real military wouldn't have been an issue. And believe me the one guy that refused would have had his ass handed to him.

I'm with McAvoy. The military would have DESTROYED him for not giving CPR to a dying general, especially one in charge of maybe the most important division in America's military history. If anything, you could spin he WAS gay and refused to out himself by doing the most basic idea ever, if you wanna be a cynical jerk.

Though it fits with the idea that Hammon picked (apparently) the most bumbling crew possible for this mission. I guess after seven years of sending SG-1 to handle every single problem, your ability to select a new team gets rusty.
