Which TR game?stryke wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 9:37 am Tomb Raider cause I remember playing it for the first time on pc and it was the first game of it's kind I'd played, and it blew my mind.
I can also pick a least favourite too. I didn't ever have a playstation as I was locked in that pc/xbox ecosystem, but my younger sibling did. One day they come to me and say "Hey I can't even beat this tutorial, can you do it for me?"
I said sure, I mean it was a tutorial so how hard can that be.
The game was Driver, if you know that game you know exactly hard that can be, and a couple of decades later I'll bring up that I was able to do eventually do it, emphasis on eventually, for brownie points.
What's Your Favorite PlayStation Game?

Oh neat, I had no idea that made it onto the ps, and to this day I still think that's the best one, with the two most recent ones coming in second and third.
Did that version still have the difficulty bug? I forget the exact details but I do know it was what led to the devs getting the wrong idea that led to Terror From the Deep being ludicrously ludicrously hard.
The very first one. Not sure if it's still available but recently Amazon Prime was giving the GoG version of a remastered edition of it away for free. Not the most recent remaster I think, but did play it a bit, and it's already been a lovely revisit.

Sorry, there's like 2 games that are just titled Tomb Raider so I had to ask as while I may call the first game in the Survivor Timeline A Survivor is Born that's really just a me thing, no one else does that.stryke wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 12:32 amOh neat, I had no idea that made it onto the ps, and to this day I still think that's the best one, with the two most recent ones coming in second and third.

The Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver series. Damn good actors doing faux Shakespearean dialogue in a story that makes "so bleak I don't care what happens to this world" an actual asset since both protagonists are villains anyways.
Definitely one of those "I wonder if they would just be gay if they remade it today" things since by the end of Defiance that subtext had really stopped being subtle.
Also it's weird they're doing remasters of the Soul Reaver games but not the others. Just the middle two entries, not the beginning or the end of the story.

Tragedy tomorrow; comedy tonight!
Re: What's Your Favorite PlayStation Game?
Honestly this is the first time I heard of a difficulty bug. But I know there was a quirk I exploited. I built my first base without radar. So that first month I never even detected a ship coming in and thus did not lose money for not intercepting it. I also concentrated on the human laser weapon as it hit as hard as an autocannon but had the AP cost of the assault rifle.stryke wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 12:32 amOh neat, I had no idea that made it onto the ps, and to this day I still think that's the best one, with the two most recent ones coming in second and third.

I grown a little softer towards Andromeda lately, still not that much of a fan of it but it's not as bad as I remember. BTW have you had a chance to play Dragon Age: The Veilguard yet and if so what's your thoughts on it?
Re: What's Your Favorite PlayStation Game?
No appologies needed, I appreciate you thinking I might be young enough that my first Lara was the reboot one rather than the original

I think, emphasis think, it was something to do that there was either none or minimal difference between the difficulty levels so it was all about the same reasonably challenging experience, and so people who ramped it up to the hardest difficulty after playing it repeatedly asked for something harder which resulted in insane labyrinthine cruise ship terror missions and sodding lobstermen that just would not die.
Re: What's Your Favorite PlayStation Game?
Andromeda was... OK. It had definite flaws but it wasn't terrible. If it wasn't Mass Effect (and if it hadn't followed on from the controversy of how ME3 ended) it would've been better received I think.
And I rather like the main title theme (took a while to grow on me).
