Yes we need more good news
Re: 5th person confirmed to be cured of HIV
I just found out a friend of mine has HIV. A present from his asshole ex. He can't afford the meds to keep it at bay let alone cure it. It just makes you wonder why the medication is so expensive. I get that it costs money for them to research it, test it, go through all the red tape, and then bring it out. I get that. Still a company and they need to recoup their investment in it.
Same issue with my Mom's anti rejection meds plus other meds she had to take when she had her transplanted kidney. My sister in law works in this industry. She has a good knowledge about it.
But just imagine for once where we have the meds to cure a disease. You know kill the thing so it doesn't spread. Wouldn't that be nice.
Just reminds me of those conspiracy theorists that say they don't want to cure you. They want to just make money off of you. Like they already have the cure for cancer but where is the profit for that.

Joking aside, most conspiracy theories really do fail when it comes to Occam's Razor and this is another one. There are multiple organisations in multiple countries working on cancer treatments which means that there are a combined total of thousands to tens of thousands of people that would need to be silenced yesterday, today, tomorrow, next month, next year, the next decade etc. This works fine for a Hollywood movie, but in real life, this assumes that everyone involved is 100% evil, possessed of perfect competence when it comes to keeping a secret and/or cowardly enough to stay in line forever. Eventually you would get a death bed confession, a drunk, a whistleblower, a bribe, a slip of the tongue, someone who has nothing to lose etc. And it only has to happen ONCE with hard evidence to blow the whole thing out of the water.
The money, time and effort involved in keeping such a secret as well as the EXTREME MURDEROUS backlash that would result if they were found out really does not seem worth it. The sad truth of the matter too is there will probably never be a cure for cancer in the form of some magic pill because cancer is not one disease. Every cancer is slightly different. It will still involve multiple costly treatments to the point that the cancer cure would still make them a lot of money especially as drugs and can be patented.

My father was a insurance agent.
He never wanted to touch health insurance because he considered it a scam and unethical.
It turned out the whole thing is crooked because he had multiple unnecessary heart surgeries because his health insurance agent and his doctor were engaged in fraud (the doctor would recommend it and pass some of the payment off to the agent).

And to think that people here grumble about the NHS.
To be fair it's got its fair share of problems, and it's a big issue that people try to dismiss any attempt at changing anything (not that I'm a fan of change in general) by pointing at the USA, but I'll take even our current mess as preferable to the other side of the pond.

My aunt just this week got sent home from the hospital the night before getting a valve in her heart replaced only to return the next morning for it because her insurance would only cover it as an outpatient surgery.
It's not just evil, it's complete gibbering nonsense.
