Re: The Hermit's Journey. To arms, prequel defenders, to arms!
My beef with Disney is that they won't continue the Legends EU post-Endor, sacrificing it to this new sequel trilogy, and I HATE this new trilogy for that reason, that those stories have been erased timeline-wise. I consider the Vong far superior to the First Order, whoever they are. I mean, imo, after what I've seen Disney do with Star Wars over the past few years, I believe now more than ever that Star Wars should be in the public domain. Give it to the people. A select few have no right to control something as vast as the Star Wars universe, to say what is and isn't canon. At least with someone else working on it, we might get more stories that follow the post-Endor Legends EU.

Nothing has been "erased", Mickey mouse didn't sneak into in my house and burn all my books. Disney is still actively republishing the old stuff just with the legends label, so they aren't trying to hide any of it. The old EU did have an ending of sorts in the final Legacy issue, the characters even talk about it being the "end of history".Yukaphile wrote:My beef with Disney is that they won't continue the Legends EU post-Endor, sacrificing it to this new sequel trilogy, and I HATE this new trilogy for that reason, that those stories have been erased timeline-wise. Well, maybe it's just me. I tend to be disillusioned with Hollywood these days since it's reboot after reboot after reboot. It feels old and worn out now. I am tired of reboots.

To be fair, that is also what they have told the fans who have poured their hearts and wallets into the post-Endor Legends EU - that it is just fanfiction. Hell, look at what Chuck Wendig tweeted to those who set up that billboard to get an idea what I mean. That's why it feels a lot like ego-stroking, that THIS is more official, thus THIS is more important, it's just all around BETTER than that old, awful, non-official thing that existed BEFORE the glory that was Disney! And yes, that was my sarcasm voice.

I just had a brilliant idea! Say that the explosion of Death Star II opened a rift that created an alternative timeline!
This totally original idea can in no way fail to make everybody completely happy!!

What I'D prefer, tbh, would be to make the Star Wars universe a multiverse the way DC did. I mean, that wasn't even seen as possible until after the Golden Age ended and the Silver Age began, but they did so, and it worked well for DC and Marvel. We KNOW they have separate universes, and it would really make Star Wars a more interesting world, imo. It also means that you can continue Legends at any time if you, say, going with the DC example, make everything that came before 2014 something analogous to Earth-2 in the Star Wars mythos. It opens up so many possibilities for storytelling and again, that is what pisses me off. They are too rigid in their approach and that's killing the creativity of Star Wars. I'd prefer that rather than simply cherry-picking Legends elements to put into the "new" canon because it diminishes Legends and all it accomplished. And perhaps they will once this "new" canon comes to an end. I mean, the way it's going, this new canon is destined to be disregarded and retconned. Trust me, it's going to become as much of a mess as the old EU was within a few years.

Well before it was cancelled, there was a planned X-files/Close Encounters themed episode of the Clone Wars featuring a Yuuzhan Vong scout ship. So if you're that desperate, you could argue that since they were sort of part of a Lucas project that would make the general direction of the old EU the highest level of canon, even by Disney's own standards.

SW comics sold way less than DC comics before Disney bought it.Yukaphile wrote:What I'D prefer, tbh, would be to make the Star Wars universe a multiverse the way DC did.
