So Trump just declared Gaza is US owned. He's kicking everyone out.

Mexico had agreed in 2019 to put 15,000 troops there. That was before any formal implementation of tariffs were proposed. This is obviously a much more charged initiative, to which the agreement is more aggressively being enacted now. It's true though the actual agreed number has softened, though that is common and expected with Trump's type of posturing.

Trump wants to flatten Gaza for housing and jobs. And has withdrawn from the UN Human Rights Council supposedly because of Iran.

See... the thing is, I think you could sell a short, sharp war to the American people. Particularly when it comes to Iran and its WMD. But Gaza would require an Afghan style occupation. Worse in fact, because Afghanistan wasn't about removing everyone in it (and ironically, nor was when the British Empire or the Soviets attacked it). How much appetite is there for this so soon after the "end" of the Afghan occupation, especially in this new "America first, screw the world" America? How many caskets covered in the Stars and Stripes will it take?

We are talking here urban street fighting, tunnel clearance, ieds, an entrenched populace who have no reason to feel inclined to either the US or Israel. And I suspect that Russia and friends will probably flood the area with arms on the sly too.

People will fight for their land and i am not talking just about Hamas. Trump and Netanyahu have just created the Maquis.

Not to mention that US involvement in Gaza was already so unpopular that just not being the incumbent when it was happening probably won Trump the election.

Plus I expect to see claiming territory there being very unpopular among his Evangelical/fundamentalist base. They want Israel to control all the territory it ever claimed in the past because they think it's a needed trigger for the Rapture and end of the world.

The problem is Trump is legitimately stupid and evil enough that he thinks mass deportation or bombing the place to the ground is acceptable.

In reality Trump used to say these things to gauge reactions. Not to troll like some thing but to see how it would be favored or not. Right now it's not favored.

Remember part of Trump's campaign was that he had no wars during his first term. Now he is instigating things. Panama, NATO, Canada, Mexico and now Gaza. Also he didn't end the war in Ukraine.
