I always had this idea where there was a game that a combination of Civilization, Age of Empires/Empire Earth, Sim City where you controlled a civilization from start to finish on a scaled Earth. When I mean scaled Earth, everything was to scale.
What I mean by that is that your civilization like Civilization builds cities, possibly start as a city state but expand out. On a scaled Earth. So it would take weeks or months (in game) to move ground units. Everything takes the time to build in game just like real world.
As you progress and advance your tech, movements across the Earth becomes faster. All of the in game mechanics mimics real world. So if your progress from the horse to internal combustion or steam engine you get faster. Bigger populations means bigger army.
Basically recreate the real world but as game with real world mechanics. But obviously sped up. But you can slow it down so you can do your small adjustments. Also have a good enough programming that for example, you can leave your cities to grow under designed conditions you created. Last thing you want to do is be in control of 100 cities that you have to manage like 100 Sim Cities.
But you can tailor make each city into what they are strong with. Industrial city. A textile one. Economic one and so forth.
Like I said the game can be sped up and slowed down. It will not be a turn based game.
Can't think how to make it multi-player though without a turn based system where it would take months if not years for a conclusion.

Your Dream Game
I got nothing to say here.
Re: Your Dream Game
I've got two, one is fairly simple and straight forward the other is more complex in nature. Both are action/adventure games and but one is more gritty and grounded while the other is meant for a more general audience.
The first is a Tomb Raider game set in my own continuity which would borrow elements mainly from the survivor games along with Uncharted, The Last of Us, Horizon and Journey.
The other is a video game trilogy which would be a direct sequel to Raya and the Last Dragon. This one is a bit more on the odd side because my idea this would be a Trilogy where all three games were made at the same time. A kinda Lord of the Rings thing which is of course much harder to pull off in a game then film but I think it could be done.
Basically the third game would be the first developed, we'd have all the mechanics figured out and then get to work on the second and third and while removing elements from those games. The first and third game would be an open world with the first game locking players off in one area while the third game allows you to explore all of Kumandra, the five lands and the inland sea. As said before the third game is the one where players get access to all mechanics and fully explore the world.
The second game is the smallest of the three, being completely linear and only including one new mechanic which is the ability to switch between characters. The idea is to go big for the first and last chapters of the Trilogy but to go small for the second chapter to help avoid people getting bored of the open world and to keep the gameplay feel fresh.
In terms of gameplay this would have the combat and stealth of the Arkham Series, the navel combat of Assassin's Creed 4 and the platforming of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Along with a unique aerial combat system where we ride around on a dragon like a horse but with three dimensional thinking. The open world would be a combination of Breath of the Wild, Elden Ring and Horizon and include what I call theme park thinking. The idea here is exploring the world of Kumandra is basically like going to a new Disney Theme Park/s with unique events, "rides" aka levels, but all tied together with a story that takes you across this world.
This would be risky but I think it could work and lead to a great game trilogy.

Re: Your Dream Game
A grand space sim game, like Elite Dangerous but with more depth to it. I keep toying with ideas for better planet generation (but I've never got as far as seeing if I can actually make them work!)
Re: Your Dream Game
That would be also my other choice. Where your civilization starts in the space age. Putting out sleepef ships of sorts to colonize other worlds.
But the catch would be you could direct how to progress that technology. That let's say hundreds of years down the road where you build battleships with thick armor but Los shields. Or you focus on starfighter technology that can take down battleships. Or fast moving smaller ships that lob powerful torpedoes at battleships. Or you create ships with powerful shields and engines that make them highly manueverable. But has weapons that requires them to be point blank ranged. Or go the steath idea. Like so many ways of doing it.
Also you can design your own ships. What to create giant battleships that is basically impervious to most if not all ships but slow and insanely expensive. Go for it. Let your four super battleships defend your territory.
I got nothing to say here.

Re: Your Dream Game
I always thought it would be cool if you had an RTS where you could build your faction like an RPG character. Most RTS games have some kind of tech tree that you follow to unlock new units and upgrades, but they are usually linear. So what if you had multiple tech trees that you could follow allowing you to pick and chose what units you would be using and make your forces feel more unique?
When you start the game you would have 4 tech trees, one for each production building; barracks for infantry, factory for tanks, airbase for aircraft and command center for economy. You would start with one very basic point in each tree so that you begin with something to work with. As you progress you get more tech points that you can spend to unlock more advanced units or special upgrades. In theory even your basic starting units can become very powerful if you unlock all the upgrades in that tree but that would leave you with limited tactical options. Fully upgraded, your basic rifleman becomes a one-man-army that can go toe-to-toe with most vehicles but if you run into something that annihilates infantry your basically stuck.
For the campaign itself I would prefer a conquest type set up, something closer to Total War. Conquering new territories give you more points for your tech tree and some territories might give you special bonuses like starting a battle with extra resources or allowing you to build units more quickly.

Re: Your Dream Game
Pretty much what I am thinking. Like if the area your country controls is surrounded by water, then you might want to invest in a strong navy. Maybe at first to defend yourself from invasion and then to project your power. Strong sea trade networks etc.phantom000 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 1:30 pm I always thought it would be cool if you had an RTS where you could build your faction like an RPG character. Sounds like a Paradox Development Studios game, even though they haven't exactly what you describe. The closest would probably be Stellaris, which I can not recommend or praise highly enough.McAvoy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2025 4:04 am I always had this idea where there was a game that a combination of Civilization, Age of Empires/Empire Earth, Sim City where you controlled a civilization from start to finish on a scaled Earth. Alternatively, if old games are to be considered: Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.

It's been a long time since I've played that, I never really got the hang of things after the rather drastic change to FTL options and planet building.

Re: Your Dream Game
There's a new drastic change to planets coming out next patch so you'd have had to relearn it anyway.
Tragedy tomorrow; comedy tonight!

Thanks for the heads up, this thread was making me think of giving it another go, I'd best wait.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 12:48 pmThere's a new drastic change to planets coming out next patch so you'd have had to relearn it anyway.
