You want my whole list or... Hell, a few of my game concepts:
A Duke-Nukem-esque Boomer Shooter featuring a gruff Scotsman saving his scientist boyfriend from an army of robots.
A Stylish Action game about a private detective fighting the Cthulhu Mythos for his totally-not-a-Mask-of-Nyarlathotep benefactor.
A side-scrolling action RPG set in the Kingdom Hearts universe with a focus on the few Canon films KH hasn't touched yet (Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Princess & the Frog, Rescuers/Mouse Detective) and the TV cartoons (Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, Darkwing, Gravity Falls, Owl House, Amphibia), and Mary Poppins (because I want her umbrella as a keyblade).
A full remake of Parasite Eve heavily inspired by Resident Evil Remake 2/4.
A proper CRPG based on Call of Cthulhu and using the Basic Roleplaying system.

Re: Your Dream Game
Define CRPG in this context. Eye of the Beholder-style Dungeon Crawler? Disco Elysium overhead Baldur's Gate-alike? Diablo-style Action RPG? Ignoring the BRS-requirement, there are a few coming to mind I'd recommend.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 7:46 pmA proper CRPG based on Call of Cthulhu and using the Basic Roleplaying system.
Darkest Dungeon, Sinking City, Sunless Sea. All else failing, there's also "Cthulu Saves the World". Also if "based on Cthulhu" is allowed some leeway into "existentially dready": Signalis, System Shock (1, 2, Remaster, but particularly 2) and that one game that was released just recently but escapes my damn mind even after looking for it... I suppose I should recommend that one in particular, because it clearly left so much trauma, that my mind intentionally avoids me remembering it...
Also, if you're "just" looking for something that will haunt your mind for the rest of your life: This War of Mine. Don't need to escape into Lovecraftian fiction, when true existential horror is endured by houndreds of thousands of people on this plane of reality every living day and there's your chance to catch a glimpse that'll stay with you for the rest of your life.
"If you get shot up by an A6M Reisen and your plane splits into pieces - does that mean it's divided by Zero?

Baldur's Gate-alike. When I say CRPG, I usually mean BG, Fallout, Pillars, Kingmaker, or Disco.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 8:14 pmDefine CRPG in this context. Honestly, Disco Elysium would be my first point of reference, being the Investigative Mystery CRPG.
Re: Your Dream Game
I just came up with a new idea for Star Trek game after reading about Resurgence.
How about a RPG of sorts where you create a character of your choosing. Very wide ranging in how you want to do that. Like an RPG you have attributes that you can start off with, even with some tinkering +1 here to that stay and so forth.
You start off as an Ensign on board a random generated ship of some class. You do your duties in some way, perhaps a puzzles because I don't think doing high end math or physics will interest anyone. You control how you interact with the crew. You get assigned missions.
You get promoted and even control where you go either to your advantage or to your detriment. Also the option in beginning allowing for random events to happen so you can be killed by for example the Borg or a unknown alien attack or some illness or phenomenon of the week.
Assuming you do good and survive, you eventually get yourself your own ship where then you have new roles. Like in real life, the more you are promoted the more responsibilities your character has. Like as Captain of your ship now you are responsible for bringing in new crew for your ship. Promoting those that you think did a good job.
Hell, if you are an exceptional engineer for example, you unlock the ability to design starship for Utopia Plantia.
If you are a Command level officer you get to command fleets of ships.
If you are a Science Officer... I don't know.
Same goes for Tactical and Security. Perhaps be able to send and command personnel to do some ground pounding.
Perhaps even have the ability to cash out of Starfleet and do some free lancing stuff.
Kinda like SIMS in Space with Star Trek flair.

Re: Your Dream Game
I think I saw a game do this already, but I wanted a fully integrated experience between RTS and first/third person gameplay. And yeah, why not make an MMOrpg out it?
For a Star Trek game you could have a bunch of people that join in on NPC ships in the midst of battles, either winning or losing, outcomes being based on the collective efforts of hundreds of ensigns aboard a ship. Obviously you will eventually get to captain your ship, but large scale conflicts are going to be few to non-existent in human directives, at least for a while, though there would obviously be range for human controlled ships that could house hundreds of players.

A world on fire.
Re: Your Dream Game
In a perfect world, the multi-player mode would allow you to fill out a ship with a crew of humans where you meet up in on certain days to do stuff. Still computer generated points instead based on let's say your captain who may be a user him/herself. Prevents artifical inflation.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Wed Apr 30, 2025 2:56 am I think I saw a game do this already, but I wanted a fully integrated experience between RTS and first/third person gameplay. Also would have the benefit of being for a lack of a better word, auctioned to another ship with a ship of users too. Like being put on certain ships would enhance your promotability. So if you are a tactical officer but on let's say a Oberth, your points would be much slower than if you were put on a Akira or a Galaxy or a Sovereign.
However if you are a science officer, being on a Oberth would be just as good as being on a Galaxy class ship. So perhaps your 'class' as a science officer may be faster early on but then would get much harder the further up you go compared to the other 'classes'.
Unless you as an Ensign in science gets assigned to let's say a Defiant class ship. But there you build up those other stats.
I got nothing to say here.
Re: Your Dream Game
Theirs a few game ideas I love I would do... but here are my three main game ideas
Never Surrender
Set in a distant cyberpunk future, a taxi cab driver drives a man to a science expo, expects his fare... and is shot in the head by said man he drove. More than a decade later, he is revived by his daughters as a zombie. His daughters, who had grown up from the adorable kids he knew to rather nasty and awful women who demand he murder their exes. Angered, but forced because of the science used, the father goes around the city that has heavily changed since his death to murder the exes, find who killed him and get revenge, and also break his curse as a zombie slave to his daughter. An open world game that is a parody of cyberpunk as a genre, the zombie dad battles Rock and Rollers who use AI to make music, cyborgs battling corporations that make cyborgs, BDSM raiders, anime cultists, a mad scientist who is practically god thanks to her trillions, and extreme wacky science that's more magic than science. Gameplay would be DMC in status, and the game would revel in bad comedy and the fact the MC is VERY disturbed by how stupid the world is.
End of Destiny
A love letter to Final Fantasy and RPG games in general, a game where a young hero is expected to save the world from a dark lord and his army plaguing it. When the lead dark general of said lord comes to the village, the young boy battles the general... and the general slays him. Thus... the world breaks as destiny must be rewritten, and so the new hero... is the dark general who slew the hero. Horrified by what he has done and sees thanks to fate, he kills his dark lord but in the fight, is in a coma and awakens years later to find the world is in a world war with the various generals who served him and the dark lord waging total war with each other and other cities. Thus, he must form a band to stop these wars... but his breaking of destiny and the intended story means many MANY things are altered, and he is to blame. A far more tragic story that is based on turn based combat, and intended to have a heavy focus on party play, being able to swap in more and is far friendlier in using other companions as the fights get more and more impossible unless you learn the system well and how to use your companions.
Do you know your rights?
The police captain of the most corrupt police station in the country is murdered in his own office. You're hired to find out who did so... but theirs a catch. The whole department is dirty, and you must figure out who killed him... and everyone is a suspect. Constant rabbit holes that have NOTHING to do with his murder, that can lead to your death. You have to play the system smart, and being too cautious can get you nowhere given the timeline of how much the cops will tolerate you. Too brash, and you'll be dead. A point and click detective game that requires a lot of intelligence, and using tools around you to solve cases and protect yourself, all to track the murderer of the captain.

Science Fiction is a genre where anything can happen. Just make sure what happens is enjoyable for yourself and your audience.

Re: Your Dream Game
Big patch finally landed. Between the planet rework and a few systems they apparently added since I've played I have no idea how anything in this game works anymore.Riedquat wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 4:37 pmThanks for the heads up, this thread was making me think of giving it another go, I'd best wait.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Fri Mar 21, 2025 12:48 pmThere's a new drastic change to planets coming out next patch so you'd have had to relearn it anyway.
